I don't believe one gets an EB 3.5 for fuel savings, really.
I've had them all; 2.7, 3.5 and now 5.0.
5.0 and 3.5 are very similar in fuel consumption from my experience. The 2.7 on the other hand is a noticeable improvement but doesn't feel like the drive of a traditional truck.

I never once got more than 19 mpg in my 3.5.
With my 5.0, I'm getting 20+ consistently.
Sounds like the 21 5.0 is really improved. My 2020 5.0 3.55 on stock tires gets 21mpg straight highway. 22 if I do high 60s mph. My average is 17. I am hoping for slightly better mpg on the 2022 3.5.

Oh yeah I know, owned my first gen 3.5 for almost 10 years now, it’s eco or boost and at 70+ it’s mostly boost lol. I’m not looking for a true gas sipper (otherwise I would be shopping for a hybrid car from Hyundai or Honda) but at the same time I’d like to be able cruise at 75 on a cross country road trip with 4 adults, 2 dogs, and everything but the kitchen sink in the bed, comfortably and with reasonable fuel economy of course.

Agree that the drop off above 70 is pretty dramatic. Driving Colorado to Oregon earlier this summer averaged 18mpg on the way their driving speed limit (80mph) on the way there and around 22.5 on the way back throttling it back to 75. Tailwind also helped but even so you could see the difference in the gauge pretty dramatically whenever the speed was pulled was back (as well as the boost). Apparently you can’t fix aerodynamics with an engine.

Did a 70mph 220 mile road trip and got 23.5mpg and it was mostly flat.

Not sure if it will improve or not but it has around 600 miles on it.

Drag goes up dramatically as speeds go over 60mph. At 70+ I wonder if you may be able to get a little more MPG running a lower gear that doesn't need to get in boost as much. NA engines are going to downshift, but these turbo engines seem to be programmed to just pour on the boost instead.

Saving minutes at higher speed can be easily offset by the time required for additional stops for more gas. I take a tip for cross country pro truckers who calculate in advance their arrival time at a given speed. They can drive slower and know they will make the required arrival time.

Where I live any driver is going to run into the ocean in 20 miles so they gain nothing by driving at 80 mph down the freeway. But they get in a mental frenzy and are emotionally driven, so to speak.

I decide based on where I am going if it is going to make a real difference if I drive at 72 mph, the maximum to avoid a highway patrol speeding ticket, or at 60 mph moving along with the big rigs in the slow lane.

Oil comanies' price gouging has already increased their profits by 400 to 500 percent in the past year and I see no reason to buy more of their product than is absolutely necessary. It is also why 99% of our travel is with a 99 mpg small SUV plug-in hybrid and not with 16.5 mpg F-150 truck.

Stock tires, SCREW long wheelbase….lifetime average so far 14.6 litres per hundred km - 16mpg

Driven at 70 mph on highway generally / 50/50 city highway with no regard to mileage.

I get 20.4 actual MPG driving mostly county dirt roads and paved highways with factory 20" rims and tires. I have a lot of aftermarket accessories such as Borla exhaust but not tires. I only drive in Eco and tonneau has done nothing to improve mileage. Miles right now 8,200 after 15 months of ownership. Much better than my 2010 FX4 5.0 at 16-17 mpg.

I wrote this when I had my 2020 5.0

So far my 3.5 is getting about 1 more mpg city and 2 highway than my 5.0, but it is a gen newer and that may be part of it. The 5.0 now has active fuel management so the new 5.0 probably gets the same as my 3.5.

My 3.5 doesn't mind 87 octane though, so that's nice.

Highway trip home from dealership when I got it: 16.7 mpg (indicated)
Just approaching 900 miles now, mostly county speeds of 62 mph: creeping up on 18.1 mpg indicated
Truck is running stock tires and no level installed yet. I did throw a tonneau cover on so the drag profile is a little better. The thing is still breaking in so I'll give it time.

Also important to indicate when we talk about fuel economy is what fuel you're burning. I'm running on regular unleaded (not premium) so I'm sure if get better economy on the better gas, but where I live even unleaded is over $4...

See my Fuelly numbers in my signature. 3.5 EB, mostly city with one trip home from Iowa (from Granger) and two trips to Kentucky from Texas in the calculations. One of the trips I pulled a dual axle U-haul enclosed trailer that was full to KY. The average has been slowly creeping up. I just turned over 12k miles.

I have a 2022 3.5L SCrew FX4 with 34.5" tires (KO2s - 285,65,r20) and I am averaging 18.2 mpg with the oversized tires. I was getting about 19.8 mpg with the stock Hankooks.

By averaging you mean averaging on the highway because a 4wd 3.5 F150 isn't going to average 18.2 with those tires if you are stopping and going.
