I'm averaging 22.5 with less than 1k miles on the 3.0 and that seems to be slowly increasing as it breaks in

At 8K miles now I'm getting 24.7 to 25 mpg. When I pull my 16 ft. bumper pull trailer with a load on it. Mileage drops a 10 of a point in mileage only. I don't think the Powerboost trucks are getting that or any better.

Dang, that's pretty much the same milage loaded or not. I was hoping for good mileage towing and it sounds like I won't be disappointed

I highly doubt he is getting that high of mpg while loaded. My guess would be between 10-12 mpg with a decent trailer being towed.

My load in the 16ft. bumper trailer is 100 - 50 lb of horse feed on 2 pallets and the trailer weight weighing about 1600 lbs for a total weight of 6,600 lbs. Driving between 65 to 70 speed with a
3.0 diesel with 3:55 rear end.

Do you reset your mpg at the start of your trip with the trailer?

Powerboost 3.5 - better MPG when driving in city
Powerstroke 3.0 - better MPG when driving on highway

The average MPG could be about the same, depending on where you drive. My Powerboost is reporting 23.2 MPG overall. For a typical 6 mile trip to the grocery store & back, I usually see 25 MPG.

The diesel will definitely blow the PowerBoost out of the water for mileage when towing, the 3.5 is notorious for sucking up gas once you ask for power. On the highway they'll be pretty close, maybe a slight advantage to the diesel there as well, but should be very close. Any speeds lower and the PowerBoost will likely pull ahead in terms of efficiency. They're tough to compare because the PowerBoost is so much more powerful overall, so it's not like comparing two engines with the same output for their respective efficiencies.

No I don't reset my mpg at the start of towing the trailer, and I know what you're going to say
about this. However the setup of the 3.0 diesel and rear end gearing of 3:55 is the perfect setup for my needs. I've had a number of trucks with 6.7 Power Stroke diesel that Ford offered and done some very heavy hauling in the past. When I decided to order my F 150 and look a different engines the 3.0 diesel was one of the only choices that I considered. The only other was the 5.0 gas and I know I wasn't crazy about driving a gas truck. Any of the Ecoboost engines I didn't even think about, because I heard bad things about them on how long they would last.

With the 3.0 I would get the torque and fuel mileage that I was looking for. I knew that some of the gas engines that Ford offer had more torque and power then the 3.0, but again they would be a gas engine. I don't haul or pull anything with to much weight now. If I did I would have just gotten a Super Duty to handle that much of a issue. I really do feel that the 3.0 diesel is better for over all pulling smaller loads, fuel mileage, and a engine that will last a long time. Ford made a big mistake
in getting the rid of the 3.0.

3.5 Powerboost and 3.73 axel, 5,670 miles on the truck:
- I always reset Trip 1 after each fill up. current tank is half way, I’ve gone 385 miles and 105 miles electric. Reading a 22.1 MPG on the truck meter

- Trip 2 I never reset since I bought it and it is reading 21.3 MPG overall.

- my truck has seen more city driving than HWY. and hasn’t hooked up to a trailer yet.

- for me I’m used to trucks getting 16MPG city at best, so to have a full size truck getting what my Civic did in college, its gravy ?

Wow those are pretty low numbers for the PB. I’m about 5500 miles in on mine with a total average of 25.1. I reset one trip each tank, leave the other one rolling for the lifetime average. Some tanks are around 24.6, some around 25.3. No towing to date.

really!?? Wow that’s great. Granted I am always on normal mode. Are you on normal as well? I’ve seen some getting similar number as yours stating they are on eco mode (which I just can’t do)

Yeah, I only use normal mode, haven’t noticed any increase from Eco myself. I think it all just comes down to driving habits and how much you stay out of the boost and how well you cans squeeze additional electric miles out of it.
