Hey folks - about to order a 23 Tremor and just found out I can get the V8 instead of the v6 ecoboost. When test drove the 22 tremor this year I didnt love the v6. Given that I have an option now I am leaning heavily towards the V8. I do tow quite a bit (8-10k boat & utility trailer). Anyone have thoughts either way on this?

thanks in advance!

Own both 5.0 and 3.5.... Towing is no comparison... The torque of the 3.5 is in a different league than the 5.0... mileage without trailer is probably gonna be about the same.... Haven't had any issues with either engine

In my humble opinion, there is no replacement for displacement, but i do hear the ecoboost can really rip (especially at high altitude), you will just never find me buying anything less than a V8 until they are no longer offered

If you didn't love the V6 go /w your gut and get the V8?

Both will tow well, just differently. The V6 is going to be low end torque made with boost, the V8 is going to rev to make torque higher in the RPM band.

I would honestly be more concerned /w Payload. I know boats have lower tongue weights as compared to say a travel trailer, but you are still putting a lot of weight on the tongue if you are looking at pulling 8 - 10k.

For reference our 6,250lb boat puts about 525lbs on the tongue. I am on my second EcoBoost. While I love a good V8 scream, the V6 pulling the boat out of the marina at 1,800 RPM is pretty difficult to beat.

Tons out on there for 5.0 vs EcoBoost.

Might as well be a chevy vs ford debate or powerstroke vs cummins.

You'll get a 50 / 50 response.

My 2 cents is my last truck was a 5.0L I tow a 5,500 lb travel trailer. Got my 3.5 in May. Night and day difference. Much better with the EcoBoost. I wouldn't go back to a V8. And I love a good V8.

Okay, if Ford came out with a twin turbo V8 that made gobs of torque at 1,600 rpm.....

Turns out the replacement for displacement is forced induction.

As much as I like a V8 I'm not a fan of the cylinder deactivation. My 2013 3.5 EB has been flawless since new. I'm going with another 3.5

Well, the 2023 Tremor is confirmed to have the 5.0 Coyote, but my Aug 29 build is still a 2022 (Antimatter 402A pkg loaded), and at first I was disappointed that I wasn't getting the V8, especially as it's manufactured here in my home town of Windsor, ON. Your positive experiences, have given me encouragement, that it will be a good one.

Agree 100% 3.5 Eco all day for towing.

As almost all will tell you both are excellent engines.
I will also chime in and say my 2021 3.5 ECO is night and day compared to my 2018 5.0 . Now i know the 5.0 for a small power bump but the down low torque difference is night and day . One thing i do miss is my muffler delete 5.0 that sounded glorious. Now i know better but to leave the ECO exhaust stock :)

I wonder why no one has come up with a turbo kit for the 5.0.
That would certainly level the playing field between the six and 8.
Shouldn’t be too hard for the aftermarket to come up with.

But the v8 guys have a supercharger available.

If you want to tow with a v8, the Gm 6.2 would be better engine imo. Prob not a popular thought here and obv factor what you like in the rest of the truck. But just something I noticed by owning a 5.0, 14+ 6.2, and now ecoboost
