2021 F-150 Supercab 5.0
Hey guys new to the F150 platform but I've done multiple overland builds with different trucks and excited to start on this. Im always on the search for the perfect platform I know it doesn't exist but I like trying new setups out. So I bought the truck used its a 2021 XLT supercab 302a High package if that's a thing I believe its almost as fully loaded an XLT can get including the 2k pro power option. It does have the 5.0 which I was looking for and was pretty hard to find with the options I wanted used. Not sure im ready to jump into the v6 twin turbo game that every truck nowadays is coming with. Im coming from mostly mid size trucks so im loving the size and power from the v8. As far as the build go im starting with basics first suspension, wheels and tires. As far as my overloading setup not sure what route I'll be going yet I've had multiple roof top tent setups but im not going that route again. I've had multiple campers a GFC, Topo toppers, Four wheel camper that I liked but I've also had just topper setups so I'll keep you posted on what I decide for this build. I do have a small Youtube channel that ill be listing with videos of this truck and my previous setups.

Build so far:
Suspension: Rough Country Vertex shocks 3" with there upper control arms and Eibach rear 1" lift blocks
Wheels: Icon Anza's 17x8.5 +6 offset
Tires: Falken wildpeak at4w in 35x11.50x17
Husky wheel liners
Bullet point dash mount

Future Mods:
Front Bumper and winch
Skid plates
Re gear probably to 4.10
OZ tune maybe
Camping setup
Rock Sliders maybe

Awesome. Very wise decisions. I have almost the exact same truck. '21 Super, Sport 4x4, 5.0 coyote, 3.73, XLT Love it. I offroad the heck out of it. Love the video, poke etc. Great channel I Subscribed. 👍

Thanks, I'm learning from you , Here's a few helpful tips from my experience mistakes: so far
1. Active air dam comes right out just tape up the connecters and zip tie them out of the way. Main dam cuts easy with a utility or sharp pocket knife. Look at what's behind it before you cut too high. I have no error messages.
2. You're prob gonna cut the front crash bar anyway with new bumper so just have at it now. Leave bolts in, cuz have to disassemble whole front clip to remove them. Bronco has nice thinner rear replacement cant find one for us yet. Fab ??
3. When choosing a bumper get one with winch mount and sensor relocation package included. do the winch and lights at same time or it will have to come apart again. I got ADD stealth, love it but there are more out there now. Harbor freight Apex 12k, love it, or warn etc Don't forget cost of some lights too, Diode dynamics perfect, Baja design $, Iron man meh, etc etc
4. With the 5.0 and 10 speed I think the 3.73 is perfect. Eats up hill climbs. 4.1 a bit much, unless towing.
5. I bought Icon Alpha 17x8.5 +6mm Haven't got right nuts yet. M14 1.5 60 deg conical, 150 foot lbs ??
6. I'm going 35x12.5 so pre cut rear bar, plastic, liner etc.
7. replace little plastic mud flap thingys asap with low profile OEM, before sliders. They will get destroyed and bend aluminum. where screws go in.
8. Keep and eye on rear leaves they will fan out. Just correct when needed.
9. RCI aluminum skids are a must. Fuel tank skid optional. Bumper will have front one?
10 cant tell if you got a hitch but thats my feeler gauge for all departure angles. LOL
11. I got welded sliders with nerf n step. Use em all the time. OEM will get destroyed fast, need to protect doors (Ford rocker panels LOL). There are good bolt ons, to frame or aluminum.

I rambled again. LOl Can't wait to see what you do next !!!

Thanks for the reply I just responded to your DM. Where did you get the sliders from definitely need them. Skid plates will be next probably and DV8 actually makes a really nice bumper for these trucks for about $1k. Since the video I did cut out the front crash bars and spaced out the bumper a bumper a bit with some 3/8 spacers I found at Home Depot. I also removed the active air dam and trimmed the front valence a bit. Lots of clearance now but the real test will be taking it off-road and getting it flexy. Thanks for the Sub I appreciate it!

Its a real shame Ford dropped the 2KW option from the 5.0. As an FYI, its 2kw PEAK not constant. Assume say 1.5KW constant at most. But that should be sufficient for you to run your Latte machines in the middle of nowhere. :)

Yeah I would use it to recharge my power station probably it pulls a 1000 watts it’s just nice to have because it wouldn’t be able to charge it with the standard 400w one

Thanks for the info.
Looks like its ready for most trail already. But keep going.
BVO, bear valley overland fabricated sliders and welded them in. Big Bear, ca, so you'd have to find a local shop to go that route. They could do brackets to bolt to frame too. Prob more options out there now. I just didn't want them bolted to the aluminum cab but it prob works fine for most trails.
DV8 bumper looks great. Figure skids that integrate ok with DV8, maybe ask them. Stage 3 Motorsports is a great help for our trucks, Talk, IM or email them with questions.
Yes definitely get the 2 oil pan/trans, transfer case skids. Watch for drain plug acces, mine sucks,
Ive seen people loosen 2 bolts on rear crash bar and bang em back a bit and get just enough extra clearance without cutting, worth doing. I think plastic/felt hits first, easy cuts. Last is the heavy homneycombed plastic behind liner you have to grind then the painted aluminum fender cuts or grind or bend. But we shouldn't ever have to go that far, maybe for 40's etc. LOL

I quickly discovered that the 400w is inadequate for much more than a single laptop. Blew a fuse, so now I carry replacement fuses, just in case it happens again.

Yep, me too.
Occasionally use AC to charge my Handheld radio batt, impact wrench batt.
Have run AC phone chargers cuz can get more current hence faster charge than USB.
Can't run a coffee maker, might try my daughters Macha Latte milk frother on it. LOL

Edit: @Henfield To answer the burning question on everyone's mind...yes an F150 5.0 V8 4x4 can make Hot Macha Latte in the middle of nowhere...

Too much fun shopping for upgrades lol.

Again on the rear crash bar I think you can loosen the 2 nuts/bolts and bang on bar with a sledge hammer and it will rotate back a bit then retighten, maybe hold with pry bar while tightening and your good to go. That just based on research and videos Ive watched etc.
