I can’t believe we STILL have the shell game going on years after Covid and shortages. I see 2025 KR’s have power boards standard, yet in 2024, they were on the high package. 2025 order guide still can’t figure out the seats… multicontour vs. active. And Bronze is gone… Marsh in, yet the KR section says Bronze two-tone. Does no one proof these things?

I’m so very glad I waited for the 2024 model year, but not waited longer for the 2025. It’s like one year either way and you suffer the dreaded “deletes”! Looking at the build sheet for 2025, KR CANNOT have the HUD (which I very much wanted), neither the KR or the Platinum have the max recline seats available, the keypad is a extra fee option, and you don’t get the cost of the PB engine rebated!! The ONLY plus is a full year of BC vs. 90 days.

Smokewagun... "Shell game" is such a great descriptor for what Ford has been doing with the F-150. I couldn't have put it better, myself.

There are some things I haven't been terribly happy about with my 2023 (I've posted now and then about those complaints while trying not to be TOO much of a Negative Nelly).
I was 99% sure I wanted to order a 2025 Powerboost King Ranch with a 6.5' bed, thinking it would resolve my complaints about my current truck, but also understanding that these are imperfect machines created by imperfect humans. However, as I began trying to configure a 2025, it was very difficult to get info on the Max Recline seats. I basically had to harass 3 different dealers to finally get the answer that they are late availability for 2025. Additionally, I don't want another pano moonroof, but King Ranch 601A and Platinum High 702A both force you into it with those equipment groups. I know everyone has their opinions on sunroofs/moonroofs, but to me, they are a waste of money because I don't use them. Here in the desert Southwest there are very few days and times when it actually makes sense to open it up. Additionally, they are just something else that can go wrong, they steal payload, and in my experience, they ALWAYS squeak and rattle.

My current F-150 replaced a 2001 Dodge Ram 5.9 Cummins turbo diesel, and I have sorely missed some aspects of that platform, especially when it comes to towing. Yes, it was bumpy on imperfect pavement, and at 75mph the engine was giving just about all it could. There were no cameras and it had the 5-speed manual, which made it VERY intimidating for my wife to drive. With that in mind, I went out of the bubble and drove 2x F-250s... the 7.3 Godzilla and the 6.7 PSD. The Godzilla is a heck of a nice engine, but I couldn't swallow the power derate at my elevation (same reason I didn't get a 5.0 Coyote when I bought the current truck). The 6.7 PSD is just unbelievable and on a whole different level than any of the other F-250 or F-150 power plants. Diesel maintenance doesn't scare me... again, imperfect machines built by imperfect humans. And the 6.7 is a proven platform with MOST of the bugs worked out at this point. The 10-speed honestly gives me more pause than the diesel engine, and we are ALL stuck with those, now!

So on Tuesday I ordered a 2024 Carbonized Gray F-250 6.7 PSD Platinum(order banks are/were still open for the diesel), and I didn't have to play the "shell game" at all. 2025s appear to have a few more items as options instead of standard, but everything is available at both the King Ranch and Platinum levels. And the moonroof is a standalone option (As it should be! Are you listening, Ford? Eh... probably not ). And yes, I know an F-250 is a totally different vehicle from an F-150 in many ways, but I have greatly missed towing with my Cummins since selling it last year. And honestly, these new Super Duty trucks drive WAY better than you'd expect if you've heard anyone talk about the rough ride of a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. The one caveat there is to NOT spec the HO PSD unless you want the HEAVY heavy duty rear suspension (and requisite rougher ride).

So I got a little off-topic here, but the TLDR is that if you are at all flexible at looking at a slightly bigger, more "truckish" truck with (almost) all the niceties of the F-150 (no Bluecruise, no CCD, no PAT) and you want a bit more flexibility with your options, maybe take a look at the F-250. My salesman had been suggesting one to me from the start, before I even bought the current F-150, and I was so sure I wanted an F-150 I never even gave the F-250 a chance. But I was incredibly surprised at what I found once I did.

Yeah, there is no comparison between the diesel 250 and the 150. The harder that motor is run, the happier it is. The EGR system needs stripped down and cleaned every 80k miles. Lots of commonality in the cabs and electronics so it's not a big difference there. Should be an easy transition. Love the power of the 6.7. Hope ford ends up doing a competent PHEV powerboost that squarely encroaches on the 250's numbers. Being able to hill climb w/ 800ftlbs of torque with an electrical motor while being able to regen brake all the way down the other side would be wonderful. Especially if they're able to delete the transmission entirely taking cues from the ramcharger.
