NGL, I really like that they added the 2.7 and 3.0 to the line up. I could see me owning a ranger raptor. I never cared for the only engine being the 2.3

They had to compete with the Colorado/Canyon performance. I don't see that Ranger ad mentioning cylinder deactivation, but neither did the ad for my 2022 F-150 5.0L. The GM 2.7 Turbo has it. That and it's a GM product 🤮

My wife drives a 2019 Ford Ranger XLT 2.3L, 6" BDS with 35x12.5 E Nitto's and she said it's very zippy. I can only imagine what she would say if she had a 2.7/3.0.....

I actually really wanted a Ranger. But, felt it would not handle my travel trailer.
I personally would not be comfortable with these scenarios:

I do like the refresh, but I'm glad I didn't keep my 2020 Ranger any longer while waiting for the 2024 model. The Raptor is especially nice, but i'd still have the same issue that prompted me to trade in - interior space...

I realize it's a 'mid-size' truck, but I could never go back at this point - I've gotten way too used to the flat floor and apartment-sized rear of the F-150. It also has an amazing interior, features and technology. It was also almost double the price of the Ranger.. Parking it sucks though. 🤣

I’m a bigger guy and I LOVE the space of the F150. Before that I had an edge sport, and it was *a little* cramped, but not unliveable. Hell I took it on more than a handful of 6+ hour road trips

Yea the 2.7 Turbo has cylinder deactivation on the GM. The Ford 5.0 system is a non issue, I don’t understand why guys hate on it. DOHC engines with CD don’t have the issues the pushrod engines do. I’ll take my 22 mpg and run on 4 banger mode and V8 when power is needed any day. I have no reason to deactivate it.

The 5.0 is using a solenoid controlled roller follower with a spring pin, it is nothing like the collapsible lifters in the GM and Ram. All the armchair engineers who have no clue how it works love to hate on it. I was talking to some guy about it and he said it’s a “Achilles heel” of V8s….I was like bro literally what are you talking about they aren’t even remotely the same.

Time will tell on the Ford implementation..... the design is simple enough from an engineering perspective. My son had a 5.7 1500 Ram that went to shit because of CD. Dodge/Ram diagnosed it and tried to say he didn't change the oil often enough. Glad that dealer kept good records of his oil changes.

Super Crew only and a $34K starting price makes it a poor option for many that need extra bed space and a working truck.

Might as well get the Maverick at that point!

Really disappointed that they didn’t use the 7 speed from the Bronco.

All the corporate executives are likely worried that a fun/affordable stripped base model would cannibalize the sales of all the overpriced options.

This is why 20+ year old regular cab trucks are selling for $10K or more in decent condition.

It’s bizarre because twenty years ago, I know a lot of people that purchased manual transmission RWD regular cab trucks because it was the cheapest vehicle that they could afford. In 2001, a base Ranger was only a few bucks more than a base Honda Civic and you could get it off the lot for less and put it to work.

Ford is full of shit when they’re making excuses about affordable trucks in 2023, since a regular cab 2023 Ranger goes for $34K AUD; which converted to USD is $23K, which funny enough is around what a base Honda Civic is going for these days.

The Ranger would satisfy 90%+ of my actual truck needs but that interior space, man that would be hard to give up. The interior space was one of the main reason for me getting my F150 in the first place. We had our first child 18 months ago and I was like yep, this car seat situation ain't gonna work with the Focus lol.

Depending on your actual needs, the Maverick puts the Ranger in a strange market position.
They are sort of close but I still see the appeal of the Ranger, and if anything the Ranger has more “brand appeal” as the nameplate has been around a lot longer.
