On another separate and completely unrelated note, the 2024 Trailer Towing Guide makes no mention of the F150's optional "Max Tow Axle".
Yep, that's a very conspicuous omission that I've mentioned before. Other than the minimal description in the Order Guide (the ratio and axle code with the note "Max Tow Axle required for maximum trailer tow capability") Ford seems to be loath to provide any information about the 2024 Max Tow axle. And that sucks big-time, IMO. (n)


What is the "Max Tow Axle" giving you that the standard axle isn't when getting the Tow/Haul Package (53T)?
Maybe you know this (if so I apologize for repeating) ...... in 2021-2023 model years the Max Tow axle was a different design (the dread '3/4-float' vs semi-floating for all others) and, perhaps more significant to its increased SAE J2807 tow rating, included larger diameter and thicker rear brake rotors (this detail not mentioned in the Order Guides or Towing Guides but found in the F150 e-Sourcebook of detailed truck specifications).

Again, I've found nothing indicating whether this does or does not carry-forward to 2024 / 2025 MY because Ford is not forthcoming with information. And again, that sucks big-time, IMO. (n)(n)

I am aware of the different design and it's associated recall for the bolt. I was not aware of the larger brake brakes. I'm sure this has carried over and this could be significant even though it's on the rear brakes. You're right though, if this is the case, why not publish this???

For 2021-2023, you could get the "Max Trailer Tow Package (53C)" separate from the "Trailer Tow Package (53A)". This changed the towing capability for the PowerBoost with a 3:73 from 11,000 lbs. (53A) towing to 12,400 lbs. (53C). Without the basic "Tailer Tow Package (53A)", the truck was limited to towing only 7000 lbs. In 2024, Ford did away with the 53C package and only had the "Tow/Haul Package (53T)" available but offered the "Max Tow Axle" on some variations. My 2024 King Ranch PowerBoost came standard with the "Tow/Haul Package" with no ability to get the "Max Tow Axle". I don't believe any trim with the PowerBoost in 2024 could get the "Max Tow Axle" but I may be wrong. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am. For 2025 however, I noticed the PowerBoost is now able to get the "Max Tow Axle" on the configurator but it still doesn't say exactly what it is.

Still, this does not explain what is added in the Tow/Haul Package (53T) that changes my PowerBoost from 10,800 lbs. to 11,200 lbs. or what adding the Max Tow Axle in 2025 will do. In any case, we are obviously talking the absolute maximum capability and if someone is towing something at or anywhere near these weights with a F150, I'd probably have a colorfully worded but silent and kept to myself opinion about them.

I 'bit' on the Max Tow for my 2022 because I like lots of 'unused overhead' with my tow rating (and I certainly have that with my rig). Maybe that was a mistake, but I'm OK with it as long as the recall issue is eventually resolved satisfactorily (I've not suffered a bolt-failure yet, knocking on wood).

Yeah, we usually think in terms of larger front brakes due to weight-transfer when braking, but in the case of extreme towing there's a lot of added downforce on the rear when braking, so the larger rear brakes likely come into play on the rather rigorous SAE J2807 test relating to brake fade.

I’ve been looking a Lariat or above that has a payload capacity of a minimum of 1600 lbs to match my 2012 king ranch with 3.5L and 6 1/2 foot bed and 4X4. It pulls my 25’ airstream just fine. All the 24’s I’ve looked at online have low payload capacity. When you run them thru the Ford towing calculator by VIN number you see actually how low payload and towing capacity drop with each model.
