Has anyone figured out yet if we can swap the 2024 5G modem into the older trucks? Thinking about I would imagine the antennas are different as well so I guess we need to see some part numbers. Hopefully its an easy upgrade to keep up with technology a bit longer

Imagine it's going to be a bit before anyone knows for sure since the 24's aren't really available yet except for a select few that seem to have trickled out if rumors are true. I would like to know as well though as depending on cost would be interested in doing the swap.

should’ve been common sense.. lol
You'd be surprised. VIN's for 2024 models have been out for months, which means, the as-built data for 2024 has been available for months. I know for a fact the gurus have been sticking their noses in there for some time now. Perhaps not looking for this in particular, but they're looking.

Not that having some extra bandwidth wouldn't be helpful, but I'm wondering what exactly you're expecting from the 5G modern versus the 4G in '21-23 models. Unless it's using wideband or mm Wave, actual speed differences will be minimal and likely within the margin of error when testing.

Well mostly the obsolescence factor. I don’t think 4g is going away yet but the truck telematics work off of it. Look at all the older GM onstar stuff that’s mostly useless because of technology moving ahead ,but I guess do without the features or buy new

GM was putting 3G into vehicles well after sunset was announced. 4G isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I see nothing to worry about because Ford will abandon updating the trucks before the modem stops working.

I'm sure if it is possible the experts on here will figure it out. :)

Really outside of OTA there is nothing on truck I actually use that needs internet. I can update with FDRS if the onboard modem quits working.

YOu cant they are completely different. The 24 F150 will have the same one the 23 F250 has. Tron the new encryption protocol includes the TCU

Just looked at the build specs for my '24 KR and it says it has a 4G modem, thought they were suppose to have 5G modems?

I just pulled a window sticker from a 24 KR on a lot, clearly lists a 5G modem:

Ford F-150 2024 5G modem for 21-23 trucks 1713383204930-dt
