When changing the motor oil on my F150, I noticed a drip of transmission oil on my skid plate under the transmission. I wiped it off since it was small, and kept an eye on it. The next day there were a few more drips, and this morning there was probably a tablespoon of oil on the pad I placed under the drip. There are no other indications of a problem and no shifting issues. I called one Ford dealership and they couldn't look at the issue for another 20 days. Another dealership couldn't look at for two weeks and then would have it there for a minimum of two weeks. The third dealership is able to look at it next week. Apparently, the transmission techs around here are busy.

I looked through the forum and didn't see many posts regarding transmission leaks, but there were a few that were mentioned in passing. Has anyone else had a transmission leak? What was the remedy?

I had a small leak where the shifter goes into the transmission. The gasket was replaced. It was dripping onto the line that runs parallel to the trans and then to the "skid plate". In the first picture the leak was where the linkage shown connects to on the trans. Parts were available so took 2 days.

Thank you for your response and update.

I did take a closer look at mine after removing the skid plates and the leak appears to be between the transmission and the transfer case. It is a small leak, but seems to be worse when driving. I'm not certain it is transmission fluid, but it is light red and has a very district smell, so I'm pretty sure that it is transmission fluid. I'll post a couple of pictures late today.

I have never seen fluid on the ground, but every time I work on my truck I see two drops of fluid hanging from the bottom of where the transmission and transfer case bolt together. Right now the leak is minor enough that I haven't taken the time to figure out exactly what is leaking, but it's on my to-do list. I'm hoping that it's just a very minor pan gasket leak, and not something more annoying like the transmission output seal or transfer case input seal.

I think I was seeing the same thing you are, but mine was a larger leak. I had about a teaspoon or two on the ground after driving it. It seemed to leak while driving, but slowed and stopped after sitting over night. I dropped it off at the dealership two days ago, and yesterday I was told that seal for the output shaft of the transmission and the seal for the input shaft of transfer case were leaking, so those were ordered and will be replaced.

There was some oil on the transmission pan, but this was being thrown there by air movement. When the skid plate was on, there was no oil on the pan. The image shows the area between the transmission and the transfer case. You can see the drip below the bolt on the left side. There was a drip on the right side and in the middle too.

That looks exactly like my leak. It would be unusual for both seals to leak, but I can appreciate the dealership wanting to replace both seals while they are easily accessed to ensure that the leak is fixed. It's completely understandable that the source may not be clear after the fluid gets flung around by the input/output shaft.

I checked my transfer case and transmission fluid earlier today and both were completely full so I'll probably hold off on pulling my transfer case for a little while.

I removed my transfer case earlier today and my leak was 100% from the transfer case input seal.

Thanks for posting this Azben.

Noticed some drips collecting in my trans skid plate. Not enough to make me worry, but enough to have me take a look. Same spot as you. Hopefully dealer tomorrow has gasket in stock. So it's out there: Skid plates went on at 2653 miles, truck now has 5662 miles. Ie the leak started somewhere in between.

Do you happen to have a part number for the gasket?
