I went in to the dealership to confirm the specs on the truck I built online and to order it. But then when we get to the end of the build the gcwr is only 14800 lbs, compared to the 17000 lbs in all the technical spec docs from ford, and towing capacity is only 9300 lbs, compared to the advertised towing capacity of 11000 lbs. This is still more than the most I would, only once in a while, tow (the most I can add up for a camping weekend is 8000 lbs towed and payload combined), but it is a lot closer than their advertising made me believe. Anyone know what would change the GCWR by this much from advertised? Or what build actually has the advertised weight ratings?

Background information...
Build is a 2022 F-150 SuperCrew PowerBoost 4x4 6.5' box/157" WB with XLT 302a trim plus 360 camera, fold flat storage, bed liner, wheel well liners, skid plates, 40/console/40, chrome package.

Weights from the dealer are (advertised weights in brackets) all in pounds:
GCWR: 14800 (17000)
Towing capacity: 9300 (11000)
GCWR: 7350 (7350)
payload capacity: 1810 (1810)
Curb weight: 5759 (5540, don't know what build this is)

I am having trouble believing the dealership's numbers because the increased curb weight should decrease the payload capacity (right??), And it can't possibly tow more than the gcwr-curb (right?), And changing the curb weight with accessories shouldn't change the GCWR (I'm less sure of this..)

The dealership just answers my questions with more questions, so any insight would be appreciated!!

You need the Max Tow package if you want the higher ratings. Code 53C

Your numbers are mixed up.
GVWR = 7,350 lbs.
GCWR = 18,400 lbs. w/ max. tow 53C, 17,000 lbs. without it.
Towing capacity = 12,400 lbs. w/ 53C. 11,000 lbs. without it.
(9,300 lbs. as you have stated is the tow rating with the 5.0 & 3.31 axle.)

The max tow package has even higher advertised weights, GCWR of 18400 lbs and towing capacity of 12400 lbs. The numbers I posted were advertised without the max tow package. The truck I built has 53A included on 302a (which includes all of 53B) and the addition of the 360 camera effectively includes everything in 17T.

I didn't add 53C as it's $1875+tax and the only thing it seems to add that I haven't already paid for is an upgraded bumper which I can't understand how that would increase GCWR by 3600 lbs (14800 to 18400 as advertised). I have seen an upgraded stabilizer bar and brakes discussed but not from Ford's documentation. Those I understand an improvement in towing capacity.

Thanks!

This is the weight ratings info from the dealer, including GAWR, for the build I listed above

I understand your hesitation with the Max tow package as I go through the same process but can you add the Tow Package?

There are quite a few threads about towing capacity with a similar theme and it’s not a club I want to be in.

The dealership information provided is very detailed something I will also request to make sureI’m not interpreting anything incorrectly.

The 302a package includes the tow package (53a) so I thought I was covered there.

Thanks!

My interpretation is 302a does not include the tow package and it’s $1,090 to add it in the configurator build tool. That would get you to 11,100#s towing.

Interesting. I will re-check that it is included. Maybe it says it is but isn't really. That would be an easy fix!
Thanks!

1. 302A does NOT include Trailer Tow package (53A) per 1/27/2022 Order Guide. See below.

2. Per footnote #2 in the 2022 RV & Trailer Tow Guide, F-150s without the trailer tow package are limited to 7K-lbs towing. Multiple discussions on this.

In general yes, tow package is an option, but for whatever reason (Canada, PowerBoost, 4x4, 302a, 157.2wb, some combination...) the trailer tow package is included on this build. I don't know why, but luckily it is. I really wish I could figure out all the contradictions.

Missed that you were ordering a Canadian F-150. Correct: Canadian 302A includes 53A.

Oh! Thanks! That explains it! Where did you find that? Can you share the whole XLT part of the document? I've only been able to find Canada 2021 and US 2022!

Thanks for everyone's ideas. It turns out that (likely) the dealer was using a third-party tool to get these numbers and that it was incorrect. Ugh.

Yes, I think you’re correct in that assumption. Any Powerboost with 53A has an 11,000 lb tow capacity. The payload from your dealer looks high, I’d guess the actual will be in the 1600s-1700 depending on your options. There is no good way to get payload on a build until you see the actual sticker sadly
