2022 F-150: No Bed Lighting

. . . still can’t believe Ford decided to remove the Bed Lighting from the 2022 XLT (302A) and Lariat trims - unless you get the entire Bed Utility package - without any way to add it separately or have it installed post-delivery. I’d absolutely pay for it given the opportunity!

• PowerBoost: Biggest concern is maximizing remaining payload; didn’t want the weight of the power tailgate & step.

• Lariat trim: Of course I’m going to install a Tonneau cover!

• No, I don’t want an after-market, third party solution. I want the OEM integration.

Seems weird…. But On the Canadian order guide under Lariat standard equipment it’s still showing “ LED box lighting w zone lighting “

The US guide does just say “ zone lighting” in that same spot

Yep, confirmed: Removed for U.S. ‘22s. Frustrating.

Zone lighting shines a light into the bed from the brake light / camera area. However if you use a tonneau cover then you would need box lighting to illuminate the bed as you slide things in and out. OP is just venting which is cool, but imo third party box lighting solutions are superior to the 3x LED light ford puts in anyway. My order got switched to a 2022, so while its annoying to have one more aftermarket thing to think about, at least its one that gets you real improvements over oem.

Warranted critiques of the LED brightness; however, yet to find a third-party solution that offers integration with the bed light button (driver’s side console) and a button in the rear of the bed near the tailgate - just like the OEM lights. Most are either battery powered or highjack power from a separate light. IMO, not the ideal solution.

I just got my 22 Canadian window sticker today and it says LED box lighting on it. We will see if the truck shows up with it!

I’ve been thinking about integrating an LED light strip into the LED light in your picture so that way it would work with the OEM buttons. I’ve read about it a few places and seen some YouTube videos. Seems pretty easy and LED light strips are pretty affordable.

U.S. Orders, 2022 F-150s (not Lightning):

*** XL & XLT***
- Come standard with normal tailgate (no step).
- Optional Bed Utility package (68L): Adds tailgate step, tailgate work surface, BoxLink, bed lighting.

*** Lariat+ ***
- Come standard with normal tailgate (no step).
- Optional Bed Utility package (68L): Adds power tailgate (aka power-up), tailgate step, tailgate work surface, BoxLink, and bed lighting.

U.S. Orders, 2021 F-150s (not Lightning):
- XLT (302A) and Lariat came standard with BoxLink and Bed Lighting. The 2022 F-150, sadly, don't; you have to add the option $995 Bed Utility package (69L) to get these now. Most frustrating part, IMO, is that while BoxLink can be added at the dealership post-delivery, Bed Lighting cannot. A '22 F-150 customer can not add OEM bed lighting. Nuts!

Canadian Orders, 2022 F-150s (not Lightning):
- XLT (302A) and Lariat still come standard with Bed Lighting and BoxLink. Lucky Canadians.
