Just did my first oil change at the dealership and wanted to let you all know that there is a difference in the Oil Capacity of the 2021 F-150 V8 and the 2020 F-150 V8. The 2021 uses 7.7 Quarts and the 2020 uses 8.8 quarts. How do I know? I always check the oil level before leaving the dealership and found my 2021 F-150 V8 to be overfilled!! Notified the service writer and he found that they had used the fill capacity for the previous model V8. They took it back and drained the oil and then refilled with the correct amount.

I wonder if its due to the thicker oil this time around?

Manual calls for about that much. I am surprised dealer didn't know...

I put 7.5 quarts in at my oil change, and it is right on the full mark. ?

And I believe that the 2020 5.0 calls for 5w20. Check your invoice because when they put in 8.8 quarts, they probably charged you for it and they might have put in the wrong weight oil. Total stupidity on their part.

Good catch.. I wondered about that myself. I have had the dealership change my oil 3 times and last one is at 6k miles which is mileage I have now. I think mine is overfilled, but the goofy dipstick is hard to read... I wonder it they screwed mine up 3 times?? Ha!
I heard because of improved belt driven oil pump, they do not need as much oil. Thanks to Roush for the better oil pump and better ring pack in 2021. . :) I sure love driving this truck.....

YOUR GLOVE BOX LIGHT IS ON
I just had an oil change at the dealer and they were a quart shy of full. I only noticed because my dash lit up w low oil level indicator 4 days after oil change, entering the highway and getting into it to get ahead of some traffic. Pulled over asap and waited 10 mins checked it and it did not register on the dip stick. Proceeded to the nearest Ford dealer and sure enough 1 qt low. 1/2 qt brought it to the 1st hole and the rest put the level just below the full hole. Guess you cant rely on pretty much anything these days. Well except death and taxes!!

Just had mine changed at the dealership. They put in 8 qts 5w30 so it's slightly over the full mark (I checked before driving away). I'm okay with that. Btw it used 1/2 a qt in 7200 miles. I'm okay with that too.

2nd oil change, different dealer and it happened again! Just wanted to make you all are aware as they are using the previous model V8 to determine fill capacity.

By the way, this is an awesome truck!

Not that I normally do, but what is the amount to add when leaving the old filter. For my early change (at 1k) I estimated about 7 even which seemed to match up with about what I took out from just the pan, but I’m having a hard time getting a good read on the dipstick.

Truck doesn’t show low on the dash but I’m hoping I didn’t end up overfilling it.

Really wish they had used a better dipstick design.

edit:
Seems to be about 6.75 w/o filter change… I would go 6.5 and then top off.

Finally happened to me too. I’ve watched this post since last year when I got my truck and had a feeling my next oil change would be this exact scenario. Sure enough, I got it changed at the dealership today and they put 9 quarts of 5w-20 in my 2021 5.0 v8. Called the service department when I got home and they seem to believe that it’s impossible. Needless to say I’ll be going back in the morning for them rectify it. Just ridiculous the amount of carelessness.

Doesn't help that the dip-stick in nearly impossible to read less the very first time after its been sitting.

Every time I recheck after the initial first look. The oil is smered across the hash marks and into the area beyond.

I guess if I stare at it long enough you can sort of make out where you think the line is but its not cut and clear.

I just changed my oil and filter last weekend. Filled with 7.5 qts and it's just above the full mark. Agree the dipstick sucks.

Not to be the guy to resurrect an old thread, but this is still happening. I had Ford mobile service out today for the works package. I checked the oil a few hours later and it's overfilled by at least a quart.

I can't even remember the last time I've paid someone to change ny oil. I bought the truck a few months ago and Ted Britt 4 Life offers a free battery every 4 years if they service. For the $50 in labor twice a year it seems like a good deal.
