I’ve been thinking a lot about all of the delays and setbacks we’ve been dealing with this year as F-150 fans.

Do you think this will ultimately work out on our favor?

Technically, we are about half way through the 2021 model year. Normal model years have production dates sometimes as early as May or June of the previous year (example: 2020 model with a date of 06/2019 on the manufacturer’s tag). For the 2021 F-150s, however, the earliest builds I’ve seen have been 10/2020.

Ford produced approximately 900,000 F-Series for the 2020 model year. Because of all of the COVID related shutdowns, and supply shortages, I don’t think they will be able to surpass that for the 2021 model year. My estimate is they will have to begin transitioning to the 2022 MY sometime in Q2 2021.

Do you all anticipate 2021 F-150s having a higher future resale value because there simply won’t be as many?

How many 2021s do you think Ford will be able to crank out for this model year?

Just a conversation starter, while we wait!

great questions. One of my concerns is @ the Dearborn plant & some of it's recent employee / union concerns about it being unsafe - COVID-19 releated.

Recently, I read they did go in & straighten it out. TEIR 1 suppliers will make or break the 2021 production qty.

Hopefully it is being worked out and things will shape up in the next 2-weeks - short Christmas break then start pumping them out. Quality this year is also a concern of mind.

I would agree great questions. I bet resale won’t be much better as this gen will be the same next year too.
I would also add that Ford will do everything in their power to make sure they are the #1 selling truck to keep their streak alive!

Another question, has anyone seen any Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, etc. 2021’s on lots yet??

I don’t doubt they’ll keep the #1 selling truck spot. Their overall numbers will just be less than the nearly one million units of 2020.

Hope you’re right about them being up to speed within two weeks!

Yea, the 2021 Models from the competitors are on the lots. The new Rams have their version of the trailer backup assist.

I think you are right that sales will take a little dip but the supply shortages happened back in 2014 and 2015 when the generation 13 models were hitting the lots. Ford suffered a frame and 5.0 engine shortage. With this in mind, I think that this fall and winter will be much like it was in fall and winter of 2014 and 2015. They will fly off the lots and dealers will not be willing to bulge. Sales will be down but average transaction prices will be up.

Interesting. I didn’t know there was a supply shortage at the beginning of Gen. 13.

Anyone on this forum have a similar experience when order the new Gen. 13 F-150? Will all this hoopla eventually work itself out?

Yeah, this reminds me a lot of the 2015 MY. They had to do a lot of retooling for the aluminum conversion and that caused a huge delay. First few trucks did not start showing up till early to mid-Dec. I order early Dec and didn't get mine till mid Mar.

I think they were in the upper 700k number produced back then but was not much down from what they had produced the year before. Might take a look for their yearly production totals.
