2021 Ford F-150 Recalled Over Defective Driveshafts
Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2021 Ford F-150 models due to issues related to the two-piece driveshaft.
The defect: in affected vehicles, the circlip used to secure the connection between the two driveshaft halves may not have been properly installed, potentially affecting the connection of the two halves.
The hazards: an improperly assembled driveshaft could separate, resulting in a loss of power without warning while driving, or unintended vehicle movement in park if the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.
Components: two-piece driveshaft.
Affected vehicles: select 2021 Ford F-150 models equipped with Ford’s 3.5L EcoBoost V6 or 3.5L PowerBoost V6 and the optional Max Trailer Tow package assembled at the Ford Dearborn Truck Plant between September 25th, 2020, and March 5th, 2021, and the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant between November 2nd, 2020, and March 5th, 2021.
Number of vehicles affected: 4,436
The fix: Dealers will inspect the driveshaft, and replace it if necessary, free of charge.
Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which are expected to be mailed the week of June 14th, 2021.
The Ford reference number for this recall is 21S25.
