I was fortunate enough to have visited Zion National Park a couple weeks back.

After a long day of hiking “The Narrows” we retuned back to town and I saw a 2021 Ford F-150 parked on the side of the roadway.

It was a gorgeous looking King Ranch SuperCrew in Guard Green with the Stone Gray accents. I had to go get a closer look.

Once I got closer, I noticed it had a Michigan state plate on it. I also noticed that the license plate had the “Manufacturer” designation on it. Also on the windshield near the A-pillar were several stickers identifying this truck as one of Ford’s proving vehicles. Somehow, I had stumbled across what appeared to be one of Ford’s original test mule F-150s!!

The VIN of MKD00144 indicates that it is likely a very EARLY build out of the Claycomo plant. Also note the tailgate. It only has a King Ranch badge instead of the full appliqué on normal production model trucks. The truck also appears to be the 3.5 EcoBoost (gas only) engine with the 2KW ProPower on Board.

This particular truck was spotted in Springdale, Utah just outside of Zion National Park on the afternoon of March 29th!

If anyone else knows what those stickers or numbers mean, feel free to enlighten me!

Enjoy these spy shots I got of this rare worker!

That VIN and license plate look real familiar to me.
Might be the KR I drove in San Antonio last October.
Did not get a picture as I was not interested in the KR---just the v8 that powered it

I’d say it’s very likely this was one of the trucks used for the cross-country test drive events a few months back.

EXTREMELY rare guard king ranch! It requires 600A (non chrome) and non-hybrid in order to be built in KC (where Guard is exclusive). Like 80% of king ranches are chrome package that forces power running boards!

I had forgot about that! Even more of a rarity!

I thought it was weird it had the Lariat “Ford” fixed running boards, but couldn’t 100% tell if it was a King Ranch 600 base or not. Given that it was a test truck, I figured the parts may not be a solid indicator as to what packages it had.

Also have to have the Chrome package to get the tailgate applique. No chrome = the smaller tailgate badge.

Would not be a bad gig!!
Agree.
I figure since I plan to tour the country when I retire anyway, why not have Ford supplement my fuel and lodging expenses?
