Three brand-new F-150s stolen from Dearborn storage lot
Nov 29, 2020
Three brand-new 2021 Ford F-150 pickups were reported stolen at 4:46 a.m. Nov. 21 from the Ford Autoport storage lot, located on Schaefer Road near Rotunda Drive in Dearborn.
An off-duty Autoport employee was driving west on Rotunda when he saw three F-150s heading toward I-94 at a high rate of speed, two without headlights on, and one with its headlights on. He called his supervisor, who immediately sent another supervisor to the site.
The responding employee found an F-150 running in the middle of the lot, which was later dusted for prints after being abandoned by the would-be thieves.
Fence damage was found on the south side of the storage lot, with truck tracks seen in the grass leading out through the opening in the fence.
The Autoport terminal manager later called the Dearborn police station and said the GPS units of the three stolen F-150s were indicating that they were in the city of Detroit. The three pickups were entered into the Law Enforcement Information Network as stolen.
One of the F-150s was recovered, intact, at 3:10 a.m. Nov. 22 near Fullerton Avenue and Woodrow Wilson Street in Detroit by a Detroit police officer, and towed to a storage yard for safekeeping.
