They tell you it’s just surface rust. At least that’s what everybody has been reporting when they question it
Yup. Had to leave my truck at the dealer for 40 days to await a new heat exchanger installation. When I got it home, I noticed rust that wasn't there 40 days earlier, since I checked based on what others have mentioned on this site. Service Dept. said they'll always be surface rust unless you get it undercoated, which apparently I need to do now. Are there any decent do-it-yourself options or is it better to take it to a specialist?

A wire brush would knock all that off in a few minutes. Some POR15 would be a great option to cover it up after you clean it up too.

I'd avoid the rubberized undercoatings.

I think the least Ford could do is have an underbody treatment applied to every vehicle that's going to sit. Or at least let customers whose vehicles are in chip purgatory hire and send in an underbody treatment crew for their VIN. It's inexcusable that these are sitting and rotting outside while waiting for chips.

I ordered my XLT on 3/19. Got an email (with VIN included) on 3/24 that it was scheduled for production week of 4/24. Received another email on 3/29 saying production was changed to week of 5/2.

Based on what I am seeing from others, it seems I got a faster timeline than most?

What dealer did you order from? And what options?

A truck, SUV. another SUV, and a sedan
I think the silver lining, for myself and others, is that by the time we get our trucks all the gremlins and kinks plaguing MY21 F150s have been worked out in our 22-23s.

Like the saying goes, never buy the 1st model year of any new model.

Talk about B.S,… I ordered last July 1 and my truck has been on a chip hold since early January. I’d have rather they hadn’t produced it until they had all the parts. Instead, my truck will be all rusted up underneath with a half dead battery and locked up rotors.
That blows! I hope these vehicles get inspection and any pieces replaced before turning them over to buyers.
