  1. Plug-in Powerboost

Our 2013 Chevy volt did that as well, though it would start the engine if the outside temp was less than 15F. This was easily solved by replacing the temp sensor with the correct size resistor. Chevy did not advertise that much either. I like the hatchback form factor but the size was a bit...
  2. Plug-in Powerboost

Our current vehicles are Volvo XC90 PHEV, Volvo xc40 EV (my wife loves it), and Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma will be replaced with the Lightning that on I have on order. It's a bummer that you have such a nice driveway ornament and it isn't getting used frequently. The xc90 might become an...
  3. Is my dealer lying to me?

Well, if you can get the dealer to put it in writing, then they will be on the hook for it. If they don't follow through, then maybe you can turn that into $$.
  4. For F$&#$ sakes

Hopefully they make it right. It would be terrible if you delayed taking delivery and they sold it as an abandoned order and you would then lose any price protection on your replacement (2023).
  5. Powerboost Destroyed Its Own Engine

My 2011 3.5 Ecoboost did something like that when it about a year old and then one other time. Going to pass someone, slow tip into the throttle, then misfires and power was pulled for the next mile or two. Second time was on vacation the day after a long day of driving. Pulling into the...
  6. Plug-in Powerboost

The f150 is big and heavy. To drive EV only it will need a sufficiently powerful electric motor. 150hp would probably be enough. Which wheels would it drive. The Volvo XC90 and xc60 phev drive the rear axle with the electric motor and the front wheels with a transverse inline 4 turbo/super...
  7. Bicycles in Short Bed

I would do the fork mounts for road bikes, but through axle mtb of various sizes (100x15mm, 110x15mm, 150x15mm) that don't all have quick releases and then having someone grab the front brakes (pads get stuck). I'd rather keep the wheels on my MTBs. But I can make a rack that supports doing...
  8. Bicycles in Short Bed

I do something similar with my 5 foot bed Tacoma, though the tailgate must remain open. The extra 6 inches should make a difference. I currently can run bikes front or back wheel forward. The new setup will be back wheel to the front of the truck and raise the rack 6 to 10 inches (effectively...
  9. Read before you order! Expect 50% range loss in winter in Northern states.

Short drives are the enemy of efficiency (both in EV and ICE). Warming the battery and the cabin initially take a lot of energy compared to keeping them at the desired temperature. My wife used to average around 2.5 miles per kWh in our bolt. I once we bought its replacement (xc40 EV) I got to...
  10. Anyone consider getting a discount on their ordered F150L by letting the dealer use it as demo ?

And if something bad happens to the truck, you may not be out any money directly, but now you are at the back of the line to pay more for a 23 or 24 with less tax credit available. The only way that I would consider if I didn't need/want the truck right away would be to take delivery, then get...
  11. Read before you order! Expect 50% range loss in winter in Northern states.

Our target charge level on the Volvo is 80 percent. When I go out for my morning run with the dog I will up it to 90 percent. The car will spend the next 15 to 30 minutes warming the battery (depending on the temperature) and then the state of charge starts increasing. If I could simply change...
  12. Read before you order! Expect 50% range loss in winter in Northern states.

Charging the battery adds heat. Ending your charging immediately prior to departure in cold weather will initially help with efficiency/range. In the cold I sometimes bump the target charge level one half to one hour prior to departure in one of our cars. I anticipate that it would work the same...
  13. Wave 5 or 6? Order invitation received today (Tuesday). Ordered Lariat SR - regret ?

I ran it out of gas once... It reduced EV power available at that point and the 87hp 5000 pound vehicle was no longer allowing all 87hp. If I could plug in at work the winter could be better. Sometimes it won't start on the way there, but if less than 50 at time of departure to go home it will...
  14. Read before you order! Expect 50% range loss in winter in Northern states.

Even if the range is not a concern, the reduced efficiency over the road (total miles per kWh, not just the kWh used for propulsion) is something to be conscious of.
  15. Read before you order! Expect 50% range loss in winter in Northern states.

Our Bolt went from almost 300 on the GOM in late spring through early fall to 120 when VERY cold in the winter. Range may have been better by driving a bit faster so that climate control was not running for as much time. This is the reason why we picked the ER battery (and faster charging).
  16. Wave 5 or 6? Order invitation received today (Tuesday). Ordered Lariat SR - regret ?

I try to use it like a very short range EV. Sometimes it fights me (even with light throttle application it will run in the cold). My recent fueling history: it has a 13.2 gallon tank though it will take 14.2 from completely empty. Dec 13 2019 11.5 gallons, 1/7/20 9.9gallons, 3/19/20 11.5...
  17. Wave 5 or 6? Order invitation received today (Tuesday). Ordered Lariat SR - regret ?

2016 with 33k miles. Had to do the brakes because of rust on the rotors. Lots of brake pad life, but corrosion on the rotors from not enough aggressive braking is our problem. Our bolt, at just over two years old almost failed inspection due to rust on the front rotors (looked great on the...
  18. Wave 5 or 6? Order invitation received today (Tuesday). Ordered Lariat SR - regret ?

Ethanol free premium... Also the car runs the engine if the gas sits for too long (about 6 months) I'd rather just have the EV. The Volvo usually runs for about a minute if the temperature is below 50 and it has been unplugged all day (even if there is enough charge to get home. grrrr). This...
  19. Wave 5 or 6? Order invitation received today (Tuesday). Ordered Lariat SR - regret ?

Phev is the gateway drug...We will not own another car without a plug. Having a phev gives me "gas anxiety". How to keep the engine from turning on and not use gas (easier with a Chevy volt than Volvo XC90 PHEV).
  20. Disappointment Thursday

I don't mind the old system. We have both in the old in the xc90 and new in the xc40 EV. If only they would put the lane keeping assist toggle back on the steering wheel buttons, not buried in a menu in the center display. Our xc90t8 is plenty fast, the xc40 is faster and much quieter under wide...
