Considering that article starts by pretending there’s going to be a new gas guzzler tax for trucks*, I’m not sure I believe anything else he has to say.
(*Don’t link me to that op-ed from the Toronto Sun. It’s wrong.)
About 4900 lbs.

Even people who work for Ford get details wrong sometimes. I would imagine he’s spent more time crawling around that truck than most people who speak on Ford’s behalf.
Ditto on the underside view. That was fantastic. Also when you asked about the fifth wheel hitch he didn’t say “absolutely not” so that’s encouraging. :)
If it’s not covered by wheel liners I’d be interested in some pics of where the bed mates with the frame at the rear wheels. Might seem odd but I’m trying to see how difficult it would be to install fifth wheel hitch rails.
I may have spoken too soon. The fifth wheel we’re seriously considering now is one of those Reflection 150s, in particular the 278BH which is 8345 lbs. dry. It may work after all.
There are universal hitch kits available. In fact, all fifth wheel/gooseneck hitches used to be universal. It wasn’t until the past 20 years or so that custom “no drill” kits started to appear.
Agreed there are a lot of people exceeding ratings, including many 3/4-ton diesels. The bottom line is that RVing is generally very safe. If it weren’t the government and insurance companies would have found a way to make us pay more for doing it.
Well I’ve decided to go a different direction. My wife and I have decided we need a bigger fifth wheel to manage camping with our teenager and special-needs preschooler. So it’s out with the Lightning idea and in with an F-350. We’ll be upsizing from our current 25-ft fiver to a 27 or 28 footer...
Only a very rough analysis. In Ontario with no rebates the fuel savings don’t come anywhere close to offsetting the increased cost, even assuming the carbon tax increases to $170/tonne by 2030 as planned.
If the Federal spring budget includes expanded EV rebates, or Doug Ford loses the...
It’s a good deal for Canadians. My desired build (XLT+ER with Tow Technology Package and Max Trailer Tow) is CA$85,695. The US equivalent is US$76,429 or CA$98,279.
Although it doesn’t look like we get rear signature lighting on the XLT. Oh well.
Hopefully but I’m thinking any modifications are going to throw off the scales. I’ll be adding some sort of suspension support for towing and the scales will probably be useless for me.
