Interesting. Thanks for sharing. My trailer brake module was replaced in July 2021 but my problem persisted throughout the rest of our camping season. Maybe they have revised them since then?
In my case, i would start a trip with trailer brakes and shortly after being stopped (sitting at a red light or on a ferry) the trailer brakes would stop working.
Thank you. Good to know. If my problems persist when I take out my camper, I will be going this route. We have a 5th wheel, so I installed a 7pin in the box. This will simply my wiring a bit. I ordered a 2022MY but canceled it last week due to fears of having the same issue as our 2021
My method is to disconnect the truck battery for 2-3 minutes and start over. It has been successful every time until I need to turn the truck off , at which point i will disconnect the battery again before resuming my trip.
I’m still quite confident that it’s a software issue. When i go see my DTC codes(i work for a ford dealer), every single day I get a code for “lost communication with BCM” and also codes for TRM. Coincidence? We also have many customers with the same code. Thankfully they don’t all tow trailers
When my brakes quit, I still have trailer brake lights and still shows my gain settings. It’s as though nothing changes, except the trailer brakes don’t engage.
For those of you who have gone to a Ford dealer, do you know if you all have the code for “lost communication between BCMC and TRM”?
It’s sad that it has to happen, but next time it happens, pull over and unplug the truck battery for a couple minutes (10mm wrench). On my last 2 trips I’ve disconnected the battery prior to leaving and I’ve had zero issues the whole trip.
