  1. Read before you order! Expect 50% range loss in winter in Northern states.

Does preconditioning heat the battery as well as the cabin? I hope Ford does not nerf the regen in cold temperatures the way Tesla does. When the battery is below 67F, regen is reduced. This affects range when in stop and go traffic and you lose 1-pedal driving since the vehicle just sails...
  2. Curve Control - is that torque vectoring by braking due to IRS ?

I think curve control is mostly in place to combat understeer if you go into a corner too hot and the truck plows ahead. Braking the inside wheels will help correct the trajectory to match the steering angle. I don't think torque vectoring can be used to shorten a turning radius, at least not...
  3. Ford Mobile Charger

This is a good non-Tesla option if you don't plan to charge at more than 9kw. You can still charge a Tesla on these with a J1772 adapter, and those adapters are less expensive than the TeslaTap to go from a Tesla HPWC to a J1772 vehicle.
  4. EV Charging Network Will Target Interstates Before Expanding Into Remote Rural and Crowded Urban Areas

It's true that when I charge my car at a gas station I often pick up food at the station, but not always. Kwh that go into my car come from my home at a 10:1 ratio to DCFC. I really only use it for long road trips, and just enough to get me to my destination where I always fill up. I think...
  5. Ford Mobile Charger

Get a couple of Tesla gen3 HPWCs and use Tesla >> J1772 adapters when charging non-Tesla vehicles. Tesla HPWCs have a load sharing protocol that will adjust the current based on overall demand. They can be installed on the same circuit. You may otherwise need a subpanel to properly wire in...
  6. Atlas Truck?

I have all but stopped paying attention to startups. It is fun to think of the cool stuff they could produce and knock off the big guys while they're flat-footed on EV development, but so many companies overpromise and under deliver. Marques Brownlee had a good video on this recently and he...
  7. The Levine Twitter parade continues: 134 kW @ 65% SOC

I'm not sure why you posted all of this about the MME. It doesn't address anything WRT why you think software doesn't affect charging rates. We're not talking about the MME, but since you mentioned it, the F150L ER has a battery that's 50% larger than the MME's largest offering. What you...
  8. The Levine Twitter parade continues: 134 kW @ 65% SOC

Sure you can, as long as you're not already limited by the DCFC in the first place. 150kw is already well below the peak charge rates of many popular CCS chargers. You can also reduce the charge rate. Just ask any Tesla owner from 2012-2015 or so.
  9. The Levine Twitter parade continues: 134 kW @ 65% SOC

It's bizarre that such a large battery is still limited to 150kw max. It's true that area under the curve is most important, but a 131kwh battery charging at 150kw is only 1.14C. Average C rate from 15-80% on my P85D is about the same peak C as the Lightning, and that's after it was nerfed by...
  10. Got a build date today!

Wave 4 or 5? I was a late wave 5 order on 2/25. I'm expecting my build date to be a few weeks later, also Lariat ER.
  11. Charging the F-150 Lightning: Everything You Need To Know [Video]

Sounds unnecessarily complex. I didn't catch what trim level you've ordered, but I assume it's not one with Ford's hardwired EVSE or I assume you'd just use that. For mobile I don't plan to use the Ford one at all due to the plug limitation. I plan to use a Tesla UMC and a J1772 adapter. The...
  12. Charging the F-150 Lightning: Everything You Need To Know [Video]

You could buy or make one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Morec-Welding-Charger-Connector-Connecter/dp/B083LRJ4DP That'd let you install a code compliant 6-50R with 6/2 and plug your 14-50 EVSE into it. Kinda sucks to spend more to save a bit of money on wiring, but it's stlll a win...
  13. Pro Audio Upgrade

Upgrading the factory speaker wires is always a waste of time and money when installing newer speakers, and almost always a waste of time when installing an amp. Crossovers included with speakers are passive, not active, so there are no additional wires for power; you just use the existing...
  14. Ready For The Ford 80A Charge Station Pro

I suppose it depends on how much a sale get you, but you should be able to run lower gauge wires to save a few bucks and still use the Ford unit without the backup power. I would imagine the EVSE portion would have selectable maximum outputs based on the circuit coming into it. I thought about...
  15. Financing Your Lightning

+1 Non-battery/motor parts for the F150 are presumably less expensive than Tesla since they would be shared with the ICE vehicles. Other parts not shared would be the DC to DC converter, chargers, charge port, and battery heater. On Teslas those can be expensive to replace since they will not...
  16. Lightning Power Running Boards (Option 18A) now removed for 2022 model year

Disappointed as well. I never did get around to calling my dealer about adding them. I was too concerned about a significant delay potentially affecting the tax credit. I suppose I'll just see what the aftermarket brings someday.
  17. Ready For The Ford 80A Charge Station Pro

A secondary box between the EVSE and the breaker could do it as well. Dominion Power had a similar experiment they did for water heaters many years ago. I have a box between my water heater and panel that allowed the power company to deactivate the water heater under certain circumstances in...
  18. Exclusive look @ F-150 Lightning next week at SEMA Garage! Post your questions & requests!

Owner/3rd party API access or fleet/owner statistic tracking service from Ford. See if they're familiar with TeslaFi or Teslascope.
  19. F-150 Lightning Will Pace NASCAR Race at Martinsville April 7-9

I agree with most of this, but I do wonder how much efficiency they left on the table by not pushing further with optimizing they aerodynamics. Ford says they've made the most aerodynamic F150 yet, but that's not saying much. The Cybertruck is on the opposite end of the spectrum, and I wonder...
  20. Who is installing solar as part of their Lightning purchase?

Solar is not really viable on my property due to trees and northern exposure. Maybe someday, but I do like trees, so maybe not. :)
