  1. Ride quality opinions requested -- 20" SL vs 18" E rated tires on 2023 3.5 Max Tow FX4

Hello Again, Well, it's been almost a month since I updated this thread. I don't have much to say here that won't involve a lot of whining and complaining, so I'll try to keep it brief. Ford insisted on doing their own vibration diagnosis. The truck sat for a week and then the "diagnosis" was...
  2. Icon 2.5 CDCV Coilovers - Requesting advice from those who have installed

That's wild, Cooder_Graw... I was literally writing a follow-up to my original post when your reply came through! Thanks for that... makes me feel better. How do you like those UCAs? Any increased NVH over stock? To follow... I'm going to sort of answer my own question(s) here... I did some...
  3. Icon 2.5 CDCV Coilovers - Requesting advice from those who have installed

Hi All, As the title suggests, I'm in the middle of installing the Icon 91823C kit on my truck. I managed to damage the boot on the upper ball joint. It's probably one of the stupidest mistakes I've ever made working on a vehicle, and totally my fault for getting into a hurry. It'll be 2 days...
  4. Ride quality opinions requested -- 20" SL vs 18" E rated tires on 2023 3.5 Max Tow FX4

Hi again folks, Just got word my truck will be ready for pickup tomorrow. The shop is working up a detailed report of the vibration analysis for me to present to Ford to attempt to get a CV axle replaced under warranty. I'm not sure how much luck I'll have, but I have to try. If Ford says...
  5. Ride quality opinions requested -- 20" SL vs 18" E rated tires on 2023 3.5 Max Tow FX4

UPDATE: Sorry it has been so long. I didn't want to reply here until I had something concrete to share. After a lot of delays, my vibration analysis is almost done. I spoke with the shop today and they they have narrowed the vibration down to the right cv axle. They're working now to narrow it...
  6. Ride quality opinions requested -- 20" SL vs 18" E rated tires on 2023 3.5 Max Tow FX4

Which tires did you buy from DT, if I may ask? I'm running the Michelin Defenders. I've definitely considered the possibility I've had a couple sets of out-of-round tires. At this point I want to see what the vibration analysis reveals before I throw any more money at this. It sickens me how...
  7. Ride quality opinions requested -- 20" SL vs 18" E rated tires on 2023 3.5 Max Tow FX4

Hello! Thanks for your thoughts. I do appreciate them. It’s funny you should reply to this thread today… I’m actually having a vibration analysis done this week. My friend who owns an Indy shop here in Albuquerque took a drive with me and agreed something doesn’t seem right at the 75-80mph...
  8. 2022 F150 XLT FX4 - Vibration / Torque Converter Shudder Question

Mine has done this pretty consistently since about 3000 miles on the odo. I’m at 6500 now. Happens generally when accelerating at 1/2-3/4 throttle at 40-60mph. Whole truck feels like it’s going over a rumble strip. Have checked FORscan mode 6 for misfires and found none. Can’t spare the weeks of...
  9. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

Correct, and the SECM only exists on trucks with adaptive steering. TLDR: Trucks without adaptive steering (like mine) have no need for a SAS reset after an alignment, and in fact have no SAS to reset. Through this whole thing, I really felt like I was the only person on the planet wondering...
  10. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

I actually tried this a few months ago when I added back the heated steering that Ford felt it necessary to remove during the truck's production. Couldn't get it enough in one direction to straighten it. The alignment shop I went to a few weeks back did a good enough job that my OCD is (mostly)...
  11. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

Time for me to eat some crow. Here goes... It does not appear my truck requires a steering angle sensor calibration after an alignment. Trucks WITH adaptive steering have a module called the SECM (Steering Effort Control Module) that requires calibration, but trucks without can just be toed and...
  12. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

Hi Jesse, Wow, that's an info-packed post and a good read! My truck, however, doesn't have adaptive steering or an SECM. I got a reply from the indy mechanic in Chicago. We might be on to something, but I want to wait on his reply to my reply before I get any more in the weeds, here...
  13. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

Heard back from FORscan and ThinkCar during the night. FORscan: "Sorry, but according to the debug information provided, the SAS calibration function is not supported by your ABS module." ThinkCar (Paraphrased): Try using an Android phone instead of an iPhone, or return the device for a...
  14. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

Alright, updates... During the night I heard back from the manufacturer of the Thinkdiag 2, ThinkCar, and also from the FORscan developer. The ThinkCar folks I'm still going back and forth with. I'm probably going to end up returning it. Not only does it not seem to want to connect with my...
  15. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

Hi powerboatr, Thanks for the idea. What you are describing sounds like pull/drift compensation. I turned that off in FORscan tonight and will be taking the truck out on the freeway for a while tomorrow to see if it helps with the pull. Even if it works, it still leaves the problem of the truck...
  16. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

Here's a short video I made showing how far off my steering wheel is from center compared to the FORscan STR_ANG_C readout: Video link (YouTube) I can only think the truck must have come this way from the factory and that the dealer who did the first two alignments didn't re-zero it afterward...
  17. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

Well, that didn’t work. Bummer. At this point, I’m thinking I will just disable pull drift compensation for three or four years to give the indy mechanics time to get the ability to reset the SAS with their Hunter equipment. Or maybe the FORscan devs will figure it out.
  18. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

I ordered a Thinkdiag 2. Supposedly it can perform the SAS reset. I’ll report back here with my results.
  19. Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Angle Reset/Calibration - Questions, Questions

Hi Jesse, Thanks for this. I was afraid that was going to be the case. Seems strange that FORscan would not have this function. I wonder if they’re working on it. That SECM doesn’t even appear in FORscan when I connect. I found a device from a third party company that claims to be able to...
