(Speculation)
My guess is the batteries are failing due to an internal short if they’re saying “suddenly fail,” and they aren’t just failing due to premature aging. The fact that the recall notice mentions a loss of drive power tends to suggest that too, as a shorted battery wouldn’t necessarily...
The 2.7 hasn’t had an enormous number of cam phaser issues. Some scattered ones, but not like the 3.5. As far as I’m aware, Ford doesn’t even offer a kit like they do with the 3.5, you’ve got to order the parts piecemeal, as it’s just nowhere near as common. Jumping to a 3.5 wouldn’t be any more...
Out of curiosity, did they say they also balanced the one they didn’t replace? Are there any spots where it looks like stick on balance weights may have detached?
Can you describe the vibration in a little more detail? Knowing where you feel it the most (wheel, seat/floorpan), if it has an accompanying noise, what frequency it is (fast or slow), etc… could help nail down if it’s a wheel, drivetrain, aerodynamic, etc vibration in the absence of a recording.
Yes. Every windshield crack I’ve had started as a tiny nick from a rock or something else hard that wasn’t dealt with immediately. I have learned my lesson now and closely Inspect every time I have a rock strike. And with all this upright glass, I expect a lot on my F-150, based on the bug...
Amen to that. Many years ago I had a 2002 Taurus that ended up having an intermittently bad camshaft position sensor. It worked fine most of the time, but if you really honked on the engine (all 155 horses), it would loudly misbehave. Took it to two different dealers before the third finally...
Aside from the algorithm sweet spot noted above… Videos over a certain length (I think it’s 8 minutes right now) allow YouTubers to enable “mid-roll” ads in the middle of videos, making more ad money. There is a significant incentive to make longer videos.
Yes.
The price of the truck is irrelevant, though. Ford (and other manufacturers) do not do better QA based on the price of the vehicle, and NO price level would excuse a chunk of trim coming loose so soon. Make the manufacturer fix such issues no matter what the vehicle costs, it’s how they...
Bummer.
A new transmission entirely? Not trying to rebuild the original first? If so, that’s pretty impressive, Ford refused a replacement when I had a 6F35 go bad in a vehicle at 10k miles, insisted on a full rebuilt kit, which in the end isn’t a horrible option as then the VIN still matches...
I don’t have any vibration issues of the sort you’ve described, even with off-road oriented tires. The only vibration issue I’ve had is throttle related, and has resolved itself over time. I do get a lot of rear wheel hop on rough surfaces if the truck isn’t weighted down, which I expected...
Take it to another dealer. I give a dealer one chance to fix something, then I take it somewhere else. Sometimes the tech at a dealer isn‘t well trained or is sloppy, sometimes a dealer tells their people not to investigate beyond pulling codes, etc.
Check that auto hold is not activated (you’ll know the difference by the red brake message versus the green auto hold icon) and that no open door messages are displayed (the vehicle will go into park when you open the driver door, for example).
I had this feature scare the living daylights out of me backing up on a National Forest road in the fall. I was using a steep road stub to turn around nose high and I guess the system saw the ground coming at it and slammed the brakes. I thought I hit a log or something. I wouldn’t have hit the...
Correct, the 4A transfer case in the Lariat and above (excluding the Raptor and some Tremors with the Hi-Lock transfer case) only switches between 2H, 4A, and 4H by varying clutch pressure. 2H is the clutch fully open and thus disengaging the front wheels, 4H is the clutch fully closed (actually...
My Lariat goes into 4A for slippery. The only time I feel a clunk outside of driveline binding is when the transfer case shifts in and out of 4L, as the changing between 2H/4A/4H modes don’t involve an actual shift on the 4A case.
Sand mode shouldn’t display 4A. Switch to the driver assistance page with power distribution and observe what it’s doing in each drive mode, see if it gives you a hint as to what’s engaging. The sensation you are experiencing sounds like binding somewhere, either due to being in 4H/4L or due to...
