  1. Lightning heater specs?

The denser cold air is the prime reason for a range hit in cold weather, not the heater, at least for longer trips where the battery and the cabin are not stone cold for the majority of the drive. The heater's energy consumption is peanuts compared to what it takes to propel the truck down the...
  2. Charging the F-150 Lightning: Everything You Need To Know [Video]

Will be interesting to see if the Connected Charge Station (48A) or Charge Station Pro (80A, included with ER battery) can be downrated to 40A. I have a 50A circuit right now with a NEMA 14-50 and it'd be nice to be able to replace my 14-50 with the CSP and charge the truck at 40A, then keep...
  3. F-150 Lightning Electrical System Overview – w/ 12v Battery, Power and Ground Points

Most vehicle accessories run on 12vdc. I wonder how the 12v system would handle additional amplifiers. The duty cycle of an amplifier is generally very low, so the load of even a 1000w amp might only be 100-150w on average, even at decently loud listening. Blasting sine waves would raise that...
  4. Priority list and waves 2+

It will be interesting to see if Ford shifts more allocations to dealerships that are not attempting to screw their customers with markups. If you're at a reasonable spot in line at a good dealership, you should stand a better chance of getting a MY22.
  5. Current EV owners question re: stuck in traffic with low charge

The drop in range is more from air density (cold air is denser) and rolling resistance than it is using the heat. I did some back-of-the-napkin calculations on air density and range on the TMC forum. Similarly, people attribute poor gas mileage in the winter to the engine running richer at...
  6. Selling Your Order or Plan to Sell Lightning?

I actually want the truck, but the extra opportunity cost from not reselling is something to consider. When taking delivery you will not cut a check for the scalper price, but you'll ultimately pay for it by keeping it and letting that "opportunity equity" pass you by. (Okay, I made up that term.)
  7. Updated Ford Intelligent Backup Power page details 320-Amp Home Service Required o_O

I'm no elechicken, but it's strange that there is a panel-specific requirement and not just a circuit requirement. I wonder if it has something to do with the two 120v poles that home panels have and their individual load capability?
  8. No powered running boards for Lightning?

It's not a bad price compared to a Model S. I'm 5'11" on a good day, so it would probably be a bit more of a hassle getting in and out without any boards at all. I do wonder what the impact to range will be for fixed vs. powered vs. no boards, and what Ford will do the EPA test with. Tire and...
  9. No powered running boards for Lightning?

Anyone have a truck without any running boards at all? How is ingress/egress? My current truck doesn't have them, but it's also just a midsize with just under 8 inches of ground clearance.
  10. Ford equivalent to Tesla mobile connector?

Oh, then I guess it was just a worthless intentional post. I didn't think anyone I don't think my use case is all that fringe. It's true that the majority (83%) of my charging is done at home, but not all of it. Long trips occasionally require staying where there is no wall mounted EVSE...
  11. No powered running boards for Lightning?

Yes, I drove a '21 PB a couple months ago to get an idea of the features I wanted on the Lightning. The powered running boards made it to the the list of wants. You're right that the noise is a little annoying, but fixed boards are ugly to me and are probably worth a couple percentage points...
  12. No powered running boards for Lightning?

While checking out the build configurator yesterday I noticed that all trucks are only offered with fixed running boards. I noticed one person on the big order thread asked their dealer to add them to the order manually which is what I might do. Or are they somehow not compatible with the...
  13. Wave 1 Lightning invitation email thread [Update: Emails AFTER 5PM ET]

I didn't get an email from Ford, but I did get an email from my dealer last night informing me about the build configurator. He said I could configure my build, PDF it, and then send it to them to process the order. I'll be doing most of that, but doing the final order in person to get a...
  14. Ford equivalent to Tesla mobile connector?

Ah ha, Primecom does offer a hard-wired 14-30 or 6-20, but they are not interchangeable. However, they do have an EVSE with adjustable amperage. This would allow someone to hack together other non-code 14-50R adapters to allow for charging at lower rates. So at least there is a solution in...
  15. Ford equivalent to Tesla mobile connector?

Ah ha, looks like they also have the 14-50 and 5-15. Strange that nobody offers a 14-30 (dryer plug) which are very common.
  16. Ford equivalent to Tesla mobile connector?

Only GM mobile connector I see is 120v unless you hack together a number of adapters to get it to run at 240v. Still only draws 12A though Sheesh. Tesla does now have a HPWC with a J1772 end on it for charging other EVs, but they don't sell a UMC with a J1772 end on it. That would be ideal.
  17. Ford equivalent to Tesla mobile connector?

I'm not familiar with a different connector that allows for interchangeable plugs which is why I started the thread. I initially mentioned the Tesla UMC since I already have one, but really any connector with J1772 output would be preferable since it could be used without a Tesla adapter...
  18. Ford equivalent to Tesla mobile connector?

That's pretty disappointing, but thanks for confirming. With the connector being modular I would think it's only a matter of time before Ford sells connectors that allow you to plug the mobile connector into different receptacles and adjust the current based on the receptacle's respective...
  19. Ford equivalent to Tesla mobile connector?

That seems to be the catch. From what I've read on the MME forums, they don't have the ability to reduce the draw. If they did, I could actually make my own adapters and plug the Ford 14-50P into any 240v receptacle and just adjust from the truck. Instead, I think we need to have the wall...
  20. Silverado EV reservations

I reserved one as well and just got a call from the dealership. He asked if I wanted to put down a $1000 deposit to secure my place at the front of the line and I politely declined. What kind of nonsense was that? I don't think I was one of the first reservations as I had to google dealer...
