Yeah, paging through the 23,981 page service manual, that checks out. Had no idea the drive clutch between the engine and the electric motor was actuated by the transmission pump and fluid.
The amount of extra “stuff” these have in them to be a hybrid. Page through the manual there are hybrid...
It was one of those things where you say “No way….how the hell? What are the odds? Bet we never see that again!”
And the engine is fine. 6.2’s are tough!
I’ll rant about my Powerboost with a sample size of 1.
6.7’s- we got away from diesels for fleet. It’s cheaper and a lot less headaches to run gassers. 6.8’s and 7.3 gassers we don’t have just yet. Have around a dozen of the 6.2’s in F250’s. No 3.5’s in the fleet except mine.
6.2’s have been...
And now…I’ll rant…
I’ve been around a fleet of around 20 each Ford F150’s and 250’s since 1994…here’s my take on the last 30 years….
4.9L I6- man…you want an engine to go to the moon with, it will take a long time, but you’ll get there
6.9 Navistar IDI- you’ll get to the moon a little slower...
I’m sure meeting CAFE standards versus the market perception of vehicle reliability and overall cost of ownership have absolutely nothing to do with the extra high voltage battery, second cooling loop that has a
heat exchanger post cat that maybe there a “customer satisfaction program” to fix...
I’ll just break down the math from my end. PB owners who have problem free trucks- I honestly am happy for you, and frankly I’m a bit jealous because when everything is running, it’s an awesome truck
Think I paid an extra $3500 for the Powerboost versus the standard 3.5 in a Lariat (btw, get...
KBB.com - trade in value - provided my vin.
Check it versus a standard 3.5 EB…..the PB is worth $2k less on a 22 Lariat Supercrew. I’m sure it will vary by trim level, mileage, etc. But, in my case KBB says the trade in for a PB is lower than the same truck with a 3.5 and no hybrid.
Check out the open recalls on your Ford pass- there’s likely a PB specific recall on your cats to check them for buildup, and for a PCM reprogram specific to the PB to prevent the cats from plugging up. I just had the recall done last week (after they cleaned the cats around 30,000 and replaced...
I got the service manual as well - bought online for $50 or $60 - pirated version probably, but it’s got my VIN
Only problem is the hyperlinks don’t work. It can take me a half hour to find the right pages when there’s 18,000 of them lol.
I think it was 800 pages or so just dedicated to the...
All due respect to the NTSB….the payload numbers are a joke. I think mine is 1,341 pounds. Me and three friends go hunting and we make the taillights say “full!” before we get a pig or a deer.
Truck will handle much more, without caring.
I had the Pirellis. I wouldn’t go so far as to call them junk myself, but the Michelin LTX’s on her now are a hell of a lot better with rain, snow, and mud. The Pirellis didn’t last terribly long either- 40,000 miles they were cooked. I’m used to getting 70-80,000 on a set of Michelins
I’m happy to hear that most owners chiming in have had better luck. Maybe I just got a problem child. It’s a shame cause I absolutely love the truck. But the long and the short of it for me is the vehicle averages 1.25 days per month out of service since I bought it. And everything outside of...
I love my 22 Powerboost, but I have to agree with CR. Reliability wise, mine has sucked.
Everything has been warranty.
I’ve had 14 different recalls.
I’ve owned it for 30 months. It’s been in the shop 30-40 days. Mostly waiting for parts…
Exhaust heat exchanger
2 cats cleaned
2 cats...
I got 2 years out of my 12V on a 2022 PB. Truck started acting up and throwing BISG codes.
New Die Hard Platinum, and it’s been behaving since I cleared the codes and torqued the battery connections to spec.
Alrighty- new guy to the forum. How goes it everyone?
2022 Powerboost Lariat, 50,000 miles
New cats at 35k after a cleaning of them first. Looks like I was an early adapter of this latest recall.
Got the wrench about a month ago. Hybrid kicks off. Cycle Off/on a few times, it goes away. Month...
