  1. Motorized gear shift lever???

My crappy shifter lasted around 15,000 miles. It still worked, but it would get out of sync with the detents in drive and reverse and run the motor to try and correct without success. It would just make motor noises until you bumped it back into alignment. I'd take the rotary shifter out of the...
  2. Another broken Axle bolt

Finally.... A recall for this issue. I'm interested to see what they will replace.
  3. Adding Torque On Demand to 2022 F150 XLT

All XLT's come with the ESOF transfer case, not TOD. Your part numbers confirm this. The Ford base part number of the transfer case assembly is 7A195. The suffix tells which version it is. ESOF is Ax, where x increments with minor revisions to the part. Your truck came with an AG, but if you...
  4. 26 to 36 gallon fuel tank swap

The tanks are the same externally, so you can't easily tell the difference. You can check part numbers if you can get under the truck and take a look. -John
  5. which 2(or 3?) transfer case models are used in our trucks?

In the Ford engineering part numbering system, the last character (C in your case, B in mine) tracks revisions. So you have one that is slightly updated from mine. The second to last (J) is the variant, so all J's will be hi-lock. The service part numbers get weird. The last digit of the prefix...
  6. which 2(or 3?) transfer case models are used in our trucks?

I bought mine from a dealer. The ML3V is a 2021 model year (and later) part, so I'm confused why you say it would be in the 2017 trucks. It could be as similar design (i.e. TOD Hi-lock), but something must be different. Did someone confirm compatibility with gen 14 trucks? The rear case half...
  7. which 2(or 3?) transfer case models are used in our trucks?

Not much aside from the part number tag. The part number on mine is ML34-7A195-AE ML3V-7A195-JD. The top of the tag has M3AE MVJD which is probably a shorthand reference. Keep in mind this is the engineering part number, not the service number. This keeps it endlessly confusing. Service numbers...
  8. TAILGATE VISCOUS DAMPENING CARTRIDGE

I just installed the Ford damper kit as well. Very nice. I had an aftermarket one, but it required the removal of one of the bed tie downs (the tailgate one). The tie down is too handy for holding down plywood or drywall sheets that are below the tie downs on the bed sides.
  9. which 2(or 3?) transfer case models are used in our trucks?

I'm the one that needed the new driveshaft. The 1" length issue only applies to the Hi-lock 4A t/case. If you use the regular 4A t/case (non-Tremor/Raptor), the t/case is exactly the same length as the ESOF you have now.
  10. New F150 3.5 engine

Are you sure it is misfire? My 3.5L always has somewhat of a rough idle. It seems like they are trying to keep the idle RPM too low, maybe for fuel economy. It also has a shudder that feels like misfire when it tries to hold a gear too long rather than downshift. Very annoying. Sport mode helps...
  11. Corwin Ford of Reno >>> Dealer Hall of Shame

Unfortunately, there isn't much Ford can do about bad dealers. Franchise laws give the dealers free reign to screw us. I am fortunate to live in an area with quite a few dealers within reasonable driving distance. One is tolerable for sales, and another is tolerable for service and parts. I...
  12. Capless gas filler cover?

The powerboost locking fuel door is there to keep you from inserting a fuel nozzle (or the little funnel) when the tank is pressurized which could cause you to get a face full of fuel. There is an emergency cable release that you can reach in case the electronic latch doesn't release. It can...
  13. Distance To Empty calc has very decent "cushion"

On level ground, it can likely suck the tank nearly dry. If you are on a grade, there is only so much fuel in the fuel pump bucket so it will stall after a few minutes of idling, or shorter if you are driving under load. Every time the tank gets back to level the pump can refill the bucket...
  14. How Would You Feel if Ford Pulled a Dodge and Produced Last Model Along Current Mod?

You need to be careful with sales data. The Ranger is built in the same plant as the Bronco (full-size, not Sport). With only so much production capacity, Ford must decide which vehicle to prioritize. Ever since the Bronco launch, it looks like it gets priority. I'm not saying Ranger would...
  15. Distance To Empty calc has very decent "cushion"

Ford generally uses 6-8% of the advertised capacity as "empty reserve". This accounts for variability in the tank (blow molded plastic isn't a precision operation) and fuel level sender. Stalling the engine with DTE>0 or with the gauge above E is grounds for a recall, so it is better to be a...
  16. Clunk when engaging 4wd

The clunk from 2H to 4H on the ESOF is typically just the splines (really more of a dog clutch) finally falling into mesh. When stopped, the shift motor attempts to move the shift fork, but if the teeth aren't lined up, the shift fork stops and the shift motor compresses a spring until the motor...
  17. Anyone else feel the console shifter kinda sucks?

My crappy column shifter is headed into the shop for repairs. If you shift quickly to drive, it seems to overtravel. The electric motor in the shifter then continuously cycles to try and move it back to position, but it doesn't actually move the lever. The motor will contiue endlessly until I...
  18. KC vs Dearborn quality issues

The plants may operate with the same assembly and QA programs, but that doesn't mean they all produce at the same quality level. Back in the 90's, I spent quite a bit of time at the Ontario Truck Plant. Just inside the main employee entrance there was a bulletin board that showed the latest...
  19. Auxiliary fuel tanks

Have you considered swapping in a 36 gallon tank? If you have a longer wheelbase truck, the 26 gallon is the same physical size as the 36. The 26 just has a lower shutoff height. Should be quick and easy to get an extra 10 gallons. I don't know exactly which wheelbases share the tanks. Clearly...
