I learned to drive on a '74 F150 with three-on-the-tree, and an AM radio with one speaker in the top of the dash. I don't need much and I am loathe to pay extra.
UPDATE: I just ordered the General Grabber ATX's. They've always caught my attention, and I'd like to give them a try. They are rated just a little higher on sand, light snow, deep snow and ice, per the TireRack.
I admit I am WAY overthinking this! And I'm with you on the OWL's! That's the one thing I really liked about the Wranglers. No school like the old school.
I got through the sands ok, just ok, with the factory Wranglers. Traction control disabled, rear locked, 4H, and don't let the momentum die down! I bring my own recovery strap, shackles, and small shovel just in case. But since I have to get new tires, I want better.
Excellent feedback, thank you. I like the more aggressive look of the ATX's and like that they'd be better equipped for the fully-loaded trip to the OBX and back; they also look like they'd be better in the sand (1-2x/yr); but the DD component is whispering "AT3 4S". Ugh hard decision.
I'm sure this has been asked in various forms, but I need to replace my stock Wranglers. I have an F-150 FX4 s-crew 5.0. I only drive 10,000 miles/year. The truck is basically a daily driver, no towing, fairly light loads. I live in the hills of southwestern PA, and while we don't get many deep...
Knock on wood, it only happened that one time. But I am always thinking of it now, especially as I'm closing in on my annual 8+ hour drive to the Outer Banks with the whole family.
This is all brilliant. Kudos to the tow driver; kudos to YOU for taking the time to provide positive feedback to who you thought was his boss -- not enough of us do that -- and kudos for the dealer's acting GM for actually acting like they give a shit. Kudos all around.
PS Beautiful truck!
I'm in the same position for my truck, but I'm stuck between the Falken Wildpeak and the General Grabber A/TX. I don't need much beyond the dd, snow & ice, and running the soft, sometimes deep sand in the OBX. I am a little stuck on the Wildpeak being made overseas.
On the 4th and 5th pictures down, if you zoom in on the mesh close to the driver's headlight, the grill opening almost looks trapezoidal. I hope I'm wrong.
