I don't believe the max tow will help with payload as it may actually hurt you. Depending on the configuration the max tow may force you to 20" wheels (+30lbs - another rant is that I absolutely hate lower profile tires on a truck but that's a discussion for another day), larger rear brakes (+?), different bumper (+??), etc.
20’s arent required on the max tow. I went with the 18’s for hopefully a better ride and honestly I like the look of the sport wheel 18’s better than the 20’s for the 2021 models. (just me, and I wavered based on looks) I have 20’s on my current 2016. They look nice but not worth the money to me.

I think The only way to get the really high payload is the HD payload package but that’s not available on the sport models and I don’t need that much payload to sacrifice some other things I want for the other 50 weeks a year I’m not pulling a trailer.

This is the load sticker on my current ‘18 F150 and I ordered my new one basically the same as this one. Max tow, Lariat, 6.5 box, 3.5 eco boost, GVWR 7050.

New to the forum and would like to say thanks to everyone and all the good information. Ordered mine 8-20-2020. Finally got a VIN with expected build of first week of February. In it for the long haul ?

Ford F-150 2021 F-150 have arrived at dealers locally! 4F7F074D-F305-4F86-875F-54A41B47D601

Got it. Damn you Marketing! I don't have an RV but I am seriously considering getting one in the near future. I'm not going to max out the weight and would probably go as light as possible but I've seen some videos of guys adding the airlift adjustable suspension on the rear as an aftermarket change to help. Does that help "increase" your payload or just cover up the problem and ultimately do more harm to your truck than good?
Doesn't help. Only an offical up-fitter can change the GVWR and that costs as much as a new truck to do. The only thing you can realistically do is remove things from the truck to make it lighter. Remove the tailgate, bed cover, spare tire etc..

My guess is your have a lightly optioned 501a lariat. That's a respectable payload. The new trucks come with a 50 pound heavier GVWR (100 pounds more on 6.5 bed). Curious how it all lines up.

20's use to not be required they are now. Max-tow is only available with 20" rims now. The HD payload package is only available on 301a and below and you will never find it on a lot. Comes with different hubs / rims, heavier duty frame and an extra overload spring.

On the Lariat if you select the max tow it makes you take the 20" rim However, if you select the sport package and then the max tow you get to keep the 18" rims. Go figure. The tow number for the regular tow are still crazy good for me and I do not like the red interior trim for the sport so I stayed with the chrome. Different choices for different people.

Nice. That is a very health number. The 18" and the extra payload from the 6.5 likely helping you get there. Your old one a 3.5 also or is it a 5.0?

i have XLT, 302a sport, 3.5 and 6.5 bed with 18’s on order. The build and price did try to push the 20’s depending on the order in which I selected options. seemed like if I didn’t select sport first it required the 20’s.

Thanks for this! This is encouraging I’ll gain at least a few hundred pounds of payload over my 16.

Can dealers make that accommodations for customers? If so, I would like to see something like that happen in Toronto... thx
I know I’m probably just a number to my dealer, but $68 is a f$!k ton of money to me, and I expect to have my requests met!

I did not know that the Max Tow would lower your payload number. I mean, it makes sense, as you are adding beefier bits to the truck, but now I am questioning whether I need it or not. Ford knows what all these items weight, I wish the build tool would give you an estimated payload.

Just for reference, in case someone has a question about it:

Payload - 1,500 lbs
Trailer - 5,000 lbs
Tongue Weight - 500 lbs (10% of trailer for this example)
New Payload - 1,000 lbs
