I think you'll like the EcoBoost, it really is an impressive piece of engineering. My 2015 3.5 had 125k on it when I traded it in and the only thing I had ever done to it was a replacement throttle body (Electronic mechanism in it went, $175 part and literally 5 minutes to replace). You'll actually get better mileage on it if you're not towing (They can be hogs when towing because they actually use their power and chew through fuel to match the air supplied by those turbos).

I would say give it a test drive when it comes in, I bet you'll have a smile on your face and wonder why you ordered the V8 in the first place. Then you'll just have to figure out how to make the numbers work for the money...

I just looked and the 3.5 is rated to tow 1,000 more pounds than the v8.

Ford F-150 Engines:
  • 3.3-Liter Ti-VCT V-6: 290 hp, 265 lb-ft
  • 2.7-Liter EcoBoost V-6: 325 hp, 400 lb-ft
  • 3.5-Liter EcoBoost V-6: 375 hp, 470 lb-ft
  • High-Output 3.5-Liter EcoBoost V-6: 450 hp, 510 lb-ft
  • 3.0-Liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V-6: 250 hp, 440 lb-ft
  • 5.0-Liter Ti-VCT V-8: 395 hp, 400 lb-ft
21 3.5 EB is 400 hp 500 lb-ft. Great motor. Love mine. traded 18 w 5.0. Get much better fuel economy. 23.5mpg yesterday cruise on 75

My heart said V8 for my first truck so a 5.0 it was... re the moon roof, it was one of my deal breakers ie had to have it and I use it a LOT... although have been surprised to see that the interior liner is just a piece of cloth that does absolutely nothing to keep out the heat....

I've had days where I'm driving along with the heat radiating on my head with the AC on to keep cool (very weird feeling).... actually looking into getting some sort of tint to keep heat out...

I'd have it again but it wouldn't be a deal breaker next time around....

If I hadn't been misled by Ford documents and misinformed by Ford agents regarding the implementation of cylinder deactivation in the 2021 Coyote 5.0L V8 engine, I would've held out for the 3.5L Ecoboost. I would go with it if I were you.

Drove the Eco for 10 years, 2011 first year for that motor.
#1 Never buy a first year motor( at 70000 had to replace timing chain ar $2500!)
I know they've come a long way with motor and it's a strong one but, the way I drive, a little heavy with the foot, the gas mileage I got was that of a V8.
#2 Traded it in a '21 Coyote (Ever time I crank her up, I smile) especially since I had dual magnaflows installed!
Guess it's all personal preference and after owning 5 F150's have come to believe the only motor that belongs in a full size pickup is a V8.
One more thing and I'm sure I'll step on some toes...Guys with 6 cylinders, please don't add dual exhaust to your motors!

So your V8 "HAS TRUE DUAL EXHAUST"? or do you have a Y pipe?

No true dual (warranty was a little more important) but this set up gave me the sound I wanted.

My '21 Platinum with the 3.5 ecoboost is my first truck. I also have a Mercedes GLS 450 with a 3.0 twin turbo. The truck is faster, quieter, and I like the seats better. The max tow rating on it is 14,000 pounds. I get 20-21 mpg normally, and I just finished pulling a 7,500 pound trailer 4,400 miles and averaged 10.7. Buy the KR.

So I guess fake duals are okay with a V8 but not on a V6

I had pretty much the same dilemma. Wanted a 5.0 but they had a 3.5 equipped like I wanted on the lot and ready to come home. When I mentioned my concerns over the turbos the dealer threw in for free a no deductible lifetime warranty on the powertrain that includes the turbos. So the truck came home with me with no regrets over the engine choice.

You honestly would be fine with any of the engines if you aren’t towing anything significant. I’m one of the weird ones that don’t care for loud exhaust. Around where I live it’s mostly the young kids that have them. I think I’ll enjoy my quite 2.7, lol.

Like I said, "To each their own" and "It's a personal preference ", so there is no reason to start any crap!
Personally I have Never ANY 6 cylinder, true dual or not , that sounds worth a damn.
I drove the first year Ecoboost, 2011 , for 9 years and never once dreamed of putting duals on it.
If you want duals on your 6 banger...go for it!
