I don't have your seating set up but have taken my center rear out for better visibility. Are you finding and pressing both buttons, one on each post, as you lift? Usually one is on the outboard side and the other less obvious on the inboard side.

It's very difficult to release. But it does come out and off. Each shaft has a release, both release buttons need to to push at the same time. The button is located on the left side of each. Both buttons push in towards the passenger side. Photo is the top of the seat back from the drivers side. You'll see both release buttons.
Thank you so much for the steps. My middle seat is always down, but the headrest is starting to make a push impression on the middle seat toward the end. Good trick for the storage as well.
One of the first mods I did was remove the headrest on my 40/20/40 bench seat and store it out of the truck, doubt if the center seat section will be folded up very often for my usage.
Made a mount with some internally threaded 0.5 inch"/12mm rods I had, fastened the mount to a Klein canvas utility pouch, Now use the headrest mounts to hold the pouch in place for a secure, quick, and easily accessible storage location.
Also used a paper storage tray that fits nicely between the folded down seat back and bottom for additional small nick-nack storage.
