Will rustproofing service help this situation at all? I’m in Canada and every new vehicle I get I always get it “oil” sprayed (underbody, door panels, etc.

Thanks

Rustproofing is really only meant to prevent it from happening and in Canada, a lot of the popular ‘undercoating’ methods down here will make it worse. The oil sprays annually are really the only effective ways to make a truck last longer in that environment.

Paint usually works much better than bare steel too! :p

An update to this post - Ford through twitter), told me to take the rust issue through the dealerships as they are trained in resloving the issue. I replied back - 1st for Ford to address it @ the production line B4 shippment and 2nd - Ford needs to get the word to the delarships and ensure they know - they are to fix the rust.

As a forum - we collectively still need to push this issue back to Ford - and social media.

As I’ve said upthread and elsewhere, the dealers need to reject these trucks. It’s akin to a grocery store rejecting a palate of fruit with mold on it. This needs to be pushed all the way back up the supply chain to the source until someone fixes it (Ford or their suppliers). I still don’t believe this rust will damage anything long term, but now that these vehicles have entered luxury vehicle pricing territory, this is unacceptable. I doubt you’ll find rust on the bottom of a Cadillac Escalade.

Oh, I agree. It's the principle of it. A $60-80K truck arriving with rust is unacceptable. I have owned 2 $60-70K Lexus and 2 $45K Toyota's and all of them coming from Japan did not have any sign of rust at all. Ford can do a better job @ the production end (quality) instead of passing it on to the dealerships in order to keep their production numbers high.

Thanks for sharing and being an influencer. You are exactly right about Ford owning the rust isssue. It appears they are "passing the buck" to dealers since the change would slow production (besides the chips & weather). This is quality control issue which conflicts with the whole premise the CEO has advertised of getting your stellar product (F-150) to market and preserving the Ford brand. This must of been on someone checklist at the OKTB release?

No dealer is ever going to reject these trucks, even if inventory wasn't a problem right now. They need to sell these things as quick as they get them. And I'll bet 50% - 70% of the really bad rust we've seen in the pictures here never gets reported by owners.

It stinks, it is unacceptable, and if I get a bad one I will certainly take it to a dealer to get cleaned up, but I bet most people don't notice it. The worst spots out by the hub / brake backing plate is almost invisible unless you are underneath the truck.

If I only have light rust I'll use my own elbow grease to wire brush it and then protect the areas with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator - available in black spray cans or quart cans for brush application. I'll probably get a quart can and use a brush so I don't have to worry about overspray. Does it suck that I'll have to spend a few hours and my own money to fix a problem Ford should have never allowed to happen - hell yes, but it is what it is, and if it's minor then I'd rather spend a half day fixing it myself rather than hassling with a dealer and the days it will likely drag on with them involved. But if mine requires more than light wire brushing by hand, then it probably will be the dealer's problem to clean it up, and then I'll use the rust encapsulator after I get it back from them.

A similar update from me too. I got a case number from the Ford Service Team on Twitter. When I followed up with the selling dealer, they told me that the claim would not be authorized by Ford, so they will not make a repair. The dealer cited several previous cases where Ford has told them that the rust poses no threat to the integrity of the axle. This is frustrating to say the least as Ford won't fix an obvious quality issue. I've reached out to the Ford Service Team again, but my expectations are low for any real action.

Yeah, unforguently I expected they would go this way. As posted earlier, way too many are accepting it & moving on by fixing it themseles or leave as is. When my truck is in transit-ship to dealership - I'm still having that rust & battery conversation with both the service manager, general sales manager etc...

To those of you with rusty rear ends (feels like there's a joke buried in there, but I'm not sharp enough to dig it out...):

Where was your truck built? Dearborn or KC?

Keep bombing them on the twitter with photos. They are trying to promote the truck. Seeing unhappy customers showing rusted axles would make a prospective buyer think twice.
