So having just purchased last week a ‘22 XL 4x4 as my new work truck I’m starting the process of modifications. First one was to cover the stock plastic steering wheel with something a bit nicer, but moreover provide a sacrificial barrier so the original doesn’t get all worn down from work use (I’m a bit OCD ). I did the same thing to cover the heated leather steering wheel on my previous work truck purely as a defensive tactic against wear and tear.
Anywho they sell on Amazon one that is specifically for the F150 steering wheel with the cutouts for the thumb grips which tuck nicely behind the trim. It essentially is a pre-sewn leather circle that you stitch around your wheel. Just thought I’d post the results for anyone else that wants to protect your more expensive wheels on the higher trim levels. They also have a grey accent as well. I have no affiliation with this company, just a satisfied customer And for anyone who wants to do the same it will take over an hour to stitch the whole cover on, but it’s much better than those cheap covers from the auto parts stores and looks darn close to a factory wheel. On the left thumb grip I didn’t finish sewing it in this picture so you can see how it all comes together, but once I finished, it pulled the leather tight in that area where it is a little bunched up
